Caucasus Universities Association was created  by the invitation of the rector of the University of Ardahan, rectors of Turkey Universities-Artvin Coruh, Ataturk, Kars Kafkas, Igdir University; Axiska State University from Georgia and Nakhchivan State University from Azerbaijan Republic by the signed  protocol  on 11 November 2009 in Ardahan.
Ordinary Congress of Caucasus Universities Association  is held every year on a regular basis to which  Sumgait State University is also  a member since 2011. The Third Annual Conference was held in May 20-21, 2013 in Baku. The Minister of Education Mikhail Djabbarov attended it. In  2013 the "Science Prize" has been submitted by the unity for the first time.
For enhancing regional cooperation, exchange between students and teachers between the two countries, accelerate the implementation of joint projects and research, there will be held VI Ordinary Congress of Caucasus Universities Association on 20 May 2016 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Sumgait State University has also been invited to this Congress.
