The department's staff has cooperative relations with the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS, the Nizami Institute of Literature, Baku State University, Baku Slavic University, Baku Business University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Azerbaijan Oil Academy, Higher Oil School. At the same time, it has close relations with Kazan State Energy University (joint conferences, webinars, student olympiads).

The Dissertation Council FD 2.24 operates at SSU for the organization of the defense of Doctor of Philosophy dissertations in the specialties 5706.01 - Azerbaijani Language and 5716.01 - Azerbaijani Literature. The Dissertation Council is chaired by Prof. Nigar Isgandarova and Prof. Ramazan Mammadov is a member of the council.

Numerous international projects have been implemented in the department. Prof. N. Isgandarova was the author and coordinator of 8 international projects. Among them, the US Department of State's Fulbright program "Visiting scholar" (2014), "English Teacher Assistant" (2015, 2016, 2018 and 2024), etc.

For their effective scientific and pedagogical activities, active participation in the public life of the university, and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the university, a group of teachers were awarded the Honorary Decree of the SSU Rector, the Honorary Decree of the Sumgait City Executive Power, and other awards.

The main goal of the department is to assist teachers in completing scientific research and scientific-methodological work related to the teaching of foreign languages ​​(English and Russian), and to provide them with methodological recommendations for organizing foreign language lessons using innovative methods and techniques in the modern era.

The main tasks of the department are as follows:

- conducting practical, seminar and other types of classes provided for in the curricula for all forms of education at a high scientific and theoretical level in accordance with the requirements of the modern education system;

- supervision of graduation theses (projects), pedagogical practice, and independent work by students;

- development and updating of curricula, textbooks and teaching aids for the subjects taught at the department and their submission for approval in the appropriate manner;

- discussing and giving feedback on the dissertations of scientific-pedagogical and scientific personnel, department employees and other applicants (doctoral and dissertation students);

- discussion of completed scientific research and scientific-methodological works, their use in lessons;

- preparation and implementation of individual plans for teaching, scientific-methodological and other work of the department employees;

- organizing relations with various enterprises and organizations in order to study the advanced work experience of individual departments and teaching staff of higher education institutions of the republic and foreign countries, and to disseminate that experience;

- providing scientific and methodological assistance to newly hired and young teachers in gaining pedagogical experience;

- preparation of measures, methodological guidance and instructions, and visual aids on the use of modern technical means in the educational process;

- organization of educational work among students.
