SSU HOLDS THE EVENT “KHOJALY IS WAITING US” DEDICATED TO 27TH ANNIVERSARY OF KHOJALY GENOCIDE
On February 26, SSU held an event “Khojaly is waiting us” dedicated to 27th anniversary of Khojaly genocide.
At first, memory of tragedy victims and all martyrs commemorated with a minute’s silence.
Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov commenced the event and spoke about the aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan. He emphasized: “Armenians many times attacked our lands with illusion of setting up “Big Armenia”, committed bloody crimes, killed our citizens and occupied several parts of our land. Khojaly massacre is one of the greatest tragedies of XX century. 27 years passed since Khojaly genocide committed by Armenian militaries with special mercilessness and inconceivable barbarism. On February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces attacked Khojaly with armored vehicles violating all international law and humanitarian norms and obliterated civilians of the city with atrocity. By committing the genocide, Armenia expanded its military aggression against Azerbaijan and occupied Lachin, Kelbejer, Aghdam, Cabrayil, Fuzuli, Gubadli and Zangilan regions of Azerbaijan. 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories were exposure to occupation”.
Rector emphasized that, this bloody tragedy has gained the legal and political status since the return of great leader Haydar Aliyev; president of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev and Heydar Aliyev Foundation. He notified that the truth about this bloody tragedy is disseminated to world community by “Justice for Khojaly” international campaign held by the initiative of vice-president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
Witness of Khojaly tragedy Irada Jafarova delivered speech in the event and spoke about that day. “It is difficult to express that tragedy. Armenians fired our villages. We were running while they threw missiles to Khojaly. There was snow everywhere. Khojaly was encircled by Armenian villages, therefore the people had to run to the mountains and pass the river. Unfortunately, almost the vast majority of these people failed to escape from the Armenian atrocities because there was no help to Khojaly at that time. Most people froze to death on that day. About 200 people could survive. I am here to make this accident known by our youth. I believe that we will soon return to our Khojaly”.
Afterwards the song “Qalmaz bele, qalmaz dunya” was sounded by laureate of Mugham contest Shabnam Faig gizi.
The event ended with literary-artistic composition “Khojaly is waiting us” dedicated to Khojaly genocide.
