Novruz holiday is celebrated in all regions of the country as a national and state holiday with great enthusiasm. The holiday celebrated at Sumgayit State University solemnly, too.

Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov highlighted historical and cultural significance of Novruz for our country and nation and notified: “Azerbaijani people have celebrated this holiday for centuries and preserved national traditions. Novruz holiday prohibited officially in Soviet period, but had a national holiday status during Heydar Aliyev’s presidency. Keeping Novruz traditions in Land of fire is a sample of value given to national and spiritual values. The policy of National leader on keeping our national values alive is successfully carried on by President Ilham Aliyev. As a result of the policy, sovereign Azerbaijan and our national values are recognized and accepted in international arena. Novruz was included in a list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO and UN General Assembly declared March 21 as an International Novruz Day. This is a sample of approval of our traditions around the world. First vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva’s services are indispensable in this field”.

Rector congratulated everyone on occasion of Novruz holiday and wished sustenance, profusion and happiness.

Dada Gorgud blessed everyone on occasion of Novruz in the event. Main personages of holiday Kosa and Kechal, Bahargiz caused a real holiday ambiance. The samples of national cuisine, clothes, folklore and handicraft demonstrated in the event. Dances of “Sema” dance group of the University and performances of famous singers of the Republic were welcomed by attendees.
