On March 28, scientific-practical conference entitled “Coryphaei of Azerbaijani linguistics” dedicated to Science day was held at Sumgayit State University. Professor-teacher staff, chairman of Department of Azerbaijani literature and Azerbaijani linguistics AUL Professor Adil Babayev, head of Department of World literature of BSU Professor Jalil Naghiyev, professor of Turkology department Mammadali Novruzov (Qipchaq), chairman of Department of Modern Azerbaijani language of ASPU Professor Buludkhan Khalilov took part in the conference.

Rector of University Professor Elkhan Huseynov started the conference by welcome speech, hailed the guests, expressed his satisfaction on seeing them at the University and spoke about reforms implemented in direction of preserving and advancing purity of Azerbaijani language. Rector said: “The native language of Azerbaijani people is one of the principal factors determining its national existence”. Emphasizing historical services of great leader Heydar Aliyev in promotion of Azerbaijani language, the professor pointed out significant state documents signed in this field. He continued: “Language policy of national leader is successfully carried on by his heir President Ilham Aliyev. The works executed by him for wide functionality of native language as a state language serve progress of reputation of Azerbaijani language”. Rector also highlighted that these outstanding scientists, who have great services in defining directions of Azerbaijani linguistics, research and teaching of actual problems of linguistics enrich the science of linguistics in our country by their creativity and also remembered and memorized by their valuable contributions.

The following people delivered speech in the conference: vice-rector on Science and Innovations Professor Ramazan Mammadov – “A.Damirchizade and Azerbaijani phonetics”; head of Folklore studies scientific-research laboratory Professor Astan Bayramov – “Afad Gurbanov and Azerbaijani onomology”; chairwoman of Department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methods docent Boyukkhanim Eminli – “Scientific-pedagogical activity of Professor Yusif Seyidov”; senior lecturer Elnara Ahmadova – “The role of Professor F.Zeynalov in advancement of turkology”. They spoke about life and activity of linguist-scholars, their rich pedagogical activities, significant services in development of linguistics. The speakers notified that the heritage of these scientists is a great contribution to future generations. Their memories will live forever in the hearts of their colleagues, students and those, who know them.
