On May 15, chief of the Department of Petrochemistry and chemical engineering of Sumgayit State University prof.Akbar Aghayev read lecture on “Establishment and development stages of oil industry in Azerbaijan” at Sumgayit State Technical College under SSU.
It should be noted that scholars of the university will read lectures at Sumgayit State Technical College, according to proper decision of Scientific Council.
Speaking about actuality of the topic, Professor Akbar Aghayev notified: “Azerbaijan possesses rich underground and surface resources. Petroleum industry rapidly developed in XX century, powerful production bases and scientific centers established. Azerbaijan played significant role in defeating German fascism by providing the army with fuel in the years of II World War. After the war, one of the greatest achievements was discovery and processing of oil and gas deposits. In 1949, oil was extracted in Oil Rocks for the first time in open sea. 1970-1980s have been characterized with processing deeper fields of the sea by Azerbaijani oilmen. In this period petroleum industry strengthened and its wide infrastructure established. In those years the achievements of petroleum industry of our republic were closely related with national leader Heydar Aliyev’s name. On September 20, 1994, “Contract of Century” was signed in Baku with petroleum companies of West on joint processing of “Azeri”, “Chirag” and deep-water portion of “Gunashli” oil fields. President Ilham Aliyev signed a contract on recomposing joint processing and production sharing of “Azeri”, “Chirag” and deep portion of “Gunashli” oil fields. Prolongation of production sharing of “Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli” oil field on “Contract of century” till 2050 is of great importance for continuation of processing not only Azerbaijani petroleum, but also other natural resources. This project is kept on in accordance with new requirements by President Ilham Aliyev and provides dynamic development and reforms”.
At the end the professor responded the students’ questions.
