SSU REPRESENTATIVES TOOK PART AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON “ENHANCING GRADUATE EMPLOYABILITY”
On October 31, British Council Azerbaijan held an international conference on “Enhancing graduate employability”.
The opening ceremony of the conference attended by Education Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, trade ambassador of Prime Minister of United Kingdom on Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson, Ambassador of Great Britain to Azerbaijan James Sharp, head of British Council Azerbaijan Samr Shah , representatives of higher education institutions, career and business bodies and students.
At first, Education Minister Jeyhun Bayramov delivered speech and highlighted that indicators of Azerbaijan on Competitiveness Index of World Economic Forum have ascended. Then, he spoke about the works carried out in our country in the field of preparation of qualified specialists, advancement of career and employability of higher education graduates according to “State Strategy on development of education in Azerbaijan Republic”.
Jeyhun Bayramov notified that Azerbaijani government calls special attention to advancement of knowledge-based economy. He said, “More than 3500 Azerbaijani youth studied at prestigious higher education institutions of the world within “State Program on Education of Azerbaijani youth in foreign countries in 2007-2015” in order to achieve integration of Azerbaijani education system into world education system”. In the end of his speech the Minister expressed his gratitude to British Council for his contribution to Azerbaijani education system.
Trade ambassador of Prime Minister of United Kingdom on Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson notified that qualitative higher education expands the chances of young people in local and global labor market. She highlighted the significance of Azerbaijan and Great Britain cooperation in education sphere. Emphasizing the importance of “Higher education for employment” program of “British Council”, Baroness Emma Nicholson noted that the program aims to develop employment skills of higher education graduates and stimulate their work at the local and global levels.
Then, head of British Council Azerbaijan Samr Shah delivered speech and noted that the purpose of the conference is to enhance graduate employability, provide competitiveness in local and global labor market and create information gathering mechanism for controlling the results.
And also in the conference strategic cooperation and exchange of experience opportunities between higher education institutions and business organizations of two countries discussed. It was noted that “Higher education for employability” program launched in Azerbaijan by British Council.
Afterwards the event went on with presentations about employment, specialist preparation, career opportunities.
It should be noted that Sumgayit State University was represented in the event by vice-rector for International Relations docent Gafar Atayev, head of Career Center Amirkhan Isayev and the methodist of the center Araz Tarverdiyev.
