AN EVENT DEDICATED TO THE STATE FLAG DAY WAS HELD AT THE FACULTY OF PHILOLOGY
On November 6, an event dedicated to the State Flag Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at the Faculty of Philology of Sumgayit State University with the organizational support of the Student Youth Organization.
The event was opened by the dean of the faculty assoc. prof. Sevinj Hamzayeva. She said that this day is a symbol of pride and glory for every Azerbaijani. The national flag of the country is the highest and main attribute of our independence and statehood.
The dean also noted that for the first time, the tricolor State Flag was approved by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on November 9, 1918. After the overthrow of the ADR in April 1920 and the establishment of Soviet power, this flag was abolished. After 70 years, on the initiative of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the national leader Heydar Aliyev, at the session of the Majlis it was approved the National Flag of the NAR.
At the same time, the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic requested the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR to recognize the tricolor flag as a symbol of the Azerbaijan state. On February 5, 1991, the Supreme Council adopted the Law on the State Flag, which fixed the status of the three-color flag as the State Flag of Azerbaijan. On October 18, 1991, the “Constitutional Act on the Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was adopted, in which Azerbaijan declared itself the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and adopted all its state symbols, including the State Flag.
By the decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated November 17, 2009, November 9 was declared the State Flag Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is annually celebrated in the country.
Further, all speakers noted that our country, as a result of the successful policy of the administration of the republic, has achieved great success in building a democratic legal state.
All speakers expressed confidence that under the leadership of Supreme Commander-in- Chief Ilham Aliyev, soon our occupied lands will be liberated and the State Flag of Azerbaijan will flutter in Karabakh.
