On November 5, scientific-practical seminar on “Management of production and household wastes” was held at Sumgayit State University.

Along with professor-teacher and student staff of Faculty of Chemistry and biology of the university, head of the section of Cleaning department of Sumgayit city Anar Mustafayev, a group of workers of Regional Ecology and Natural Resources Division of Sumgayit city № 4, chairwoman of Ecological ethnography department Sevinj Maharramova and head of Ecological circle Ruhiyya Asgarova also took part in the seminar.

Vice-rector on Humanitarian Issues of the university docent Ramiz Huseynov launched the event, greeted the attendees and spoke about the importance of the seminar. He noted that the purpose of this kind of events is to change the attitude of people to the protection of environment, to direct public attention to ecological problems and to call attention to possibility of environment protection, as well as to improve knowledge and skills of students in the field of environment and to involve the community to joint conservation. The vice-rector said: “Substantial works have been done in direction of solution of ecological problems, environment protection, and restoration of ecological balance under the administration of President Ilham Aliyev. National programs on ecologically stable social-economic development, restoration and augmentation of forests, as well as State Program on the advancement of hydrometeorology in Azerbaijan have been successfully implemented”.

Head of the Department of Ecology docent Rahila Ahmadova delivered speech and notified that different events have been organized in the Department with the aim of effectively using underground water, mineral raw resources and surface resources, their restoration and protection, preserving biological diversity. “Today’s seminar is one of them. The problem of household wastes has been discussed for many years. The wastes are characterized by principal 2 different features. In one hand waste is the source of danger for human health and environment, in other hand it is a source of renewable raw material and heat and energy resource. It is possible to re-acquire raw materials while organizing waste management system. Reprocessing decreases the usage of natural resources”.

The following persons delivered presentations in the seminar: chief advisor of Regional Ecology and Natural Resources Division of Sumgayit city № 4 Elmar Musayev – “Management of wastes”, Vusal Ibrahimli – “Azerbaijani legislation in the protection of environment”, docent of Ecology department Nargiz Ashurova – “Dioxin problem”, assistant of Ecology department Tunzala Babayeva – “Pollution of Sumgayit industrial zone with heavy metals, their inactivation and restoration of its fertility”, among students Nigar Zeynalova – “Provision of public health”, Narmin Salimli – “Neutralization of solid wastes”, Gunel Gardashova, Zumrud Baghirova – “Preventing environment pollution”, Vugar Ahmadli – “Laying asphalt by plastics”. They pointed out: “The human role is great in any changes occurring in the environment. We only together could protect our surrounding and achieve healthy future”.

At the end of the seminar discussion was carried out around the topic and the questions of attendees were responded by related bodies.
