FORUM OF AZERBAIJANI STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
On December 10, the Forum of Azerbaijani student volunteers was held, dedicated to the International Volunteer Day.
Initially, members of the student-volunteer program “Bir” visited the Honorary Burial Alley and paid tribute to the national leader Heydar Aliyev by laying flowers at his grave.
The forum dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Baku State University is held with the aim of developing the volunteer movement of students, stimulating their active participation in the country"s public life. The Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov, deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Farhad Hajiyev, permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan Alessandro Fracassetti, MPs, heads of universities and more than 400 student volunteers and other guests took part in the Forum.
The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded. A video about student volunteering was shown.
The BSU rector Elchin Babayev, opening the Forum, said that he highly appreciated the volunteer movement and emphasized that students of the educational institution headed by him are also members of this program.
Further, Minister of Education Jeyhun Bayramov spoke. He welcomed the participants to the Forum. The Minister noted that the national leader Heydar Aliyev paid great attention to youth policy. This important area has been successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev. A lot of work is being done in this area and great success has been achieved. Then the minister spoke about the practice of the volunteer movement and its capabilities. He noted that the main task of Azerbaijani education is to train competent specialists who have mastered knowledge of innovative technologies, ready to appeal to a globalizing world.
The minister said that among the numerous projects being implemented, the student voluntary program “Bir” occupies an important place. In carrying out events of national and international significance in recent years, student volunteers of this program took an active part. This means that a large army of high-quality and experienced volunteers has been created in the republic to conduct international and national events. The Minister wished the student volunteers success in their work.
Alessandro Fracassetti, permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan, expressed satisfaction with his participation in the Forum and praised the work of volunteers. The “Bir” Student Volunteer Program, as a program to support sustainable development, successfully promote volunteering and the largest student volunteer platform, was awarded by Alessandro Frakkasseti.
Within the framework of the Forum, a report of the “Bir” Student Volunteer Program was presented, and the most active student volunteers of the year were awarded.
It should be noted that Sumgayit State University was represented at the Forum by a group of student volunteers.
The forum was held with the organizational support of the Ministry of Education, the “Bir” Student Volunteer Program and the partnership of the Permanent Mission of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan.
It is noteworthy that the “Bir” Student Volunteer Program plays a substantial role in the development of our country. This is a long-term program for the development, systematization and stimulation of the work of student volunteers. Currently, this program brings together more than 23,000 volunteers from 26 universities and 18 secondary specialized educational institutions of the country.
