In recent years, our state has paid great attention to strengthening relations with other countries in the field of science and education. The development of bilateral economic and cultural ties, including science and education with the Russian Federation, is a prime example. These include the Russian-Azerbaijan Association of Universities, founded in 2015, which currently unites 53 universities from both countries. The Association of Universities of the two countries is a bridge to strengthen cooperation in science and education. The activities of the Association are aimed at the practical implementation of the ideas of cooperation in the field of science and education, the development of a common educational space and humanitarian cooperation of independent states. The Association also helps to increase the intellectual potential of our countries.

The Association of Azerbaijani-Russian universities was created in November 2015 and includes 36 higher education institutions from Russia and 17 higher education institutions from Azerbaijan. The co-chair of the Association from Azerbaijan is the rector of SSU, professor Elkhan Huseynov, the Russian co-chair is the rector of USPTU academician Ramil Bakhtizin.

The association successfully implements international projects. On July 14-21 this year, Sumgayit State University, with organizational support of the Azerbaijan-Russian Association of Higher Education Institutions, organized a Summer school called “Travel to the Land of Fire Azerbaijan”. Leading employees, teachers and students of SSU have repeatedly participated in various forums. At the same time, Russian scientists participate in scientific conferences held at SSU, publish research results in scientific journals and periodically conduct master classes for students. In 2019, “News” of the Ufa State Aviation Technical University published an article by SSU professors T.D.Aghayev and J.F. Mammadov, “Software modules and software for analyzing the airspace of urbanized territories”, developed jointly with professors V.E. Gvozdev and N.I. Yusupova and the article "Some models of managing the process of evacuation from cities with chemically hazardous enterprises" in the journal "Vestnik MANEB" of the International Academy of Ecology and Life Safety (St. Petersburg). Such cooperation creates favorable conditions for the exchange of experience and the implementation of joint innovative projects, which, in turn, has a positive impact on the quality of education in general.
