SSU HOSTED AN EDUCATIONAL EVENT IN CONNECTION WITH THE CORONAVIRUS
An educational event related to the coronavirus epidemic was held at Sumgayit State University on February 14, which was carried out in accordance with the Plan of events of the Ministry of Education approved by the order of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 5, 2020 № F-75 with the aim of ensuring the implementation of the “Action Plan for the Prevention of Spreading new coronavirus (2019-n CoV) in Azerbaijan Republic” by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.
The event was attended by the head of the department of the Children"s hospital, chief infectious disease specialist of the city, honored doctor Sehri Babayev, doctor of the Sumgait regional center of the Ministry of Emergencies, captain of the medical service Arzu Babazade, epidemiologist of the Sumgait city Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology Lamiya Mammadova, doctor of the Infectious diseases department of the Sumgait city hospital № 1 Ayten Abdullayeva and the university staff.
The event was opened by the vice-rector for Humanitarian Affairs assoc. prof. Ramiz Huseynov. He said that on behalf of the head of the republic, educational events were organized among the population in connection with the epidemic of coronavirus and the method of combating it.
Infectionist Sehri Babayev spoke in detail about the consequences of the virus infection and how to avoid it.
Epidemiologist Lamia Mammadova and doctor of the Sumgait regional center of the Ministry of Emergencies Arzu Babazade talked about the history of coronavirus. They said that the disease, first discovered in animals in 1960, infected people in the following years and caused an epidemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2003, and in 2012, the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). A new type of coronavirus found in Wuhan, China, has been named 2019-n CoV by World Health Organization. The risk of contracting this virus is highest in people with a weak immune system. Experts said that headaches, fever, coughing, sneezing, loss of appetite and indigestion are the first symptoms of the disease and emphasized the importance of consulting a doctor immediately if such symptoms are detected.
