On January 31, 2020, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, signed an Order “On the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Abdulrahim bey Hagverdiyev”. According to the order, a scientific-practical conference in the online format "The shining star of our realist literature" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev began its work on April 20 at Sumgayit State University.

Opening the conference, docent Ramiz Huseynov, vice-rector for Humanitarian Affairs, greeted the participants online and said that protecting citizens from coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, which has become a global pandemic, is a top priority for the Azerbaijani state today. Speaking about the importance of the conference, the vice-rector noted that urgent measures are being taken to prevent the threat of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in Azerbaijan. In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus epidemic in the country, in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the Ministry of Education, teaching, sharing scientific experience and foreign projects, meetings, conferences are organized online (remotely) in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the Ministry of Education.

The vice-rector spoke about the life and rich creativity of the writer, playwright, publicist, critic Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, a great artist of our people, who made great contributions to the development of Azerbaijani literature and dramaturgy. He noted that the writer, publicist and theater organizer and public figure Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev made important contributions to the development of Azerbaijani literature. The Order signed by President Ilham Aliyev on the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, who left an indelible mark on the history of Azerbaijani literature, once again proves that the attention and care for Azerbaijani literature and writers has always been at a high level. Speaking about the value given to our poetry by national leader Heydar Aliyev, the vice-rector noted that this tradition was successfully continued today by his worthy successors, President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva. Speaking about the rich creativity of the writer, the vice-rector noted that Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev was one of the personalities who had a special place in the history of socio-literary and cultural thought of Azerbaijan in the late XIX and early XX centuries. Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev enriched both our dramaturgy and prose, as well as our satirical journalism with new and original themes, as well as works with unique idea-aesthetic, subject and compositional features, style and expression. Thus, in the first decade of the twentieth century, he shone as one of the key figures in ensuring the diversity and rapid development of our national socio-artistic thought. Ramiz Huseynov also noted that Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev skillfully used the opportunities of fiction and drama on the one hand, and the press and especially the "Molla Nasreddin" tribune on the other.

The following lecturers delivered speech in online conference: Professor Avtandil Mammadov, head of the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign countries’ literature – “Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev as a Powerful Representative of Molla Nasraddin Literary School”, Professor Astan Bayramov, head of the Folklore studies Research Laboratory – “Stories of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev”, Editor-in-Chief of “Chapar” journal Dilgam Ahmed – “The activity of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev in the period of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”, Ali Rzayev, senior lecturers of the Department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methods - “Socio-psychological problems in the works of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev”, Nemat Ibayev -“National self-awareness problem in Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev's works”. They spoke about his creative path and the activities of "Molla Nasreddin". They noted that the author's works about our historical past have always been appreciated by readers and played an important role in educating young people in the spirit of patriotism. The speakers stressed that his contributions to Azerbaijani literature and history are invaluable.
