On April 24, an online seminar on the COVID-19 pandemic was held at Sumgayit State University with organizational support from the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology and the Student Trade Union Committee.

The seminar was opened by vice-rector for Humanitarian Affairs associate professor Ramiz Huseynov. He informed in detail about the COVID-19 pandemic that swept most of the world's countries. The vice-rector noted that according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, advanced measures were taken in our country to prevent the spread of coronavirus and to combat it. Based on information from WHO and the UN, we can say that Azerbaijan, unlike many large states, has taken more effective measures to combat COVID-19, which is yielding positive results. The foresight of President Ilham Aliyev, the quick reaction to current events and the work he carried out in this area in a short time became an example for countries taking similar measures. A Fund to fight the coronavirus was created, and President Ilham Aliyev was the first to transfer his monthly salary to this fund. This good mission was continued by First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. The Fund against coronavirus, created on the initiative of Ilham Aliyev, received funds from other organizations and individuals.

Today, citizens of the country with great enthusiasm met all the decisions of the head of state to combat the spread of coronavirus, protect public health and improve its well-being. Based on the Presidential Decree of March 19, 2020, related to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), education for students from low-income families will be paid at the state’s expense. This was greeted by parents and students with great gratitude, and the President received numerous letters in which they expressed their appreciation to the head of state. Once again, the people were convinced that in a difficult moment, their leader was next to them, with his care and support. As always, President Ilham Aliyev did everything in his power to ensure that the people went through this global test with minimal losses.

It was noted that the staff of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the city of Sumgayit repeatedly disinfected all university buildings. It should be noted that in connection with the prevention of the spread of coronavirus and an increase in the effectiveness of preventive measures, educational work was carried out at Sumgayit State University.

Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology associate professor Mahal Muradov spoke about the complications this virus can cause and how to protect against it. He noted that the state is taking all measures to protect the population from the coronavirus, but all people should be responsible for their health, using personal hygiene products.

Afterwards deputy dean associate professor Mushkunaz Nazarova delivered speech on "Organization of online classes at the Faculty", associate professor of the Department of Biology and its teaching methods Lala Bunyatova "Information on the etymology of COVID-19, ways of infection, symptoms in children and adults", Khanahmad Hasanov "Biology of COVID-19 virus”, Anar Gullarli, a student of group 323 "Preventive measures taken by President Ilham Aliyev in the country in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic."
