On May 1, Sumgayit State University hosted an online webinar on “Assessing the Similarity Report for Anti-Plagiarism Analysis”. The webinar was attended by members of the Dissertation Councils of SSU, as well as members of scientific seminars, employees of the Scientific Section, Doctorate and Master"s departments, faculty members, vice-rectors, deans of faculties, heads of departments and divisions, supervisors, doctoral students and dissertators.

The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations of the University, Professor Ramazan Mammadov, who greeted the participants and gave detailed information about the widespread coronavirus pandemic around the world. He noted that the situation in the country was under control at this difficult time, the establishment of the Coronavirus Support Fund, the annual donations of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva to the fund, the allocation of funds to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the economy are the result of the wise leadership and successful policy of the head of state. The vice-rector also stressed that along with the measures taken by the state to prevent the spread of the virus in our country, we are doing and should do our best. In accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the Ministry of Education, in order to ensure the sustainability of education, education at Sumgayit State University continues online (distance). At the same time, teaching, distribution of scientific experience and foreign projects, conferences, meetings are carried out online.

Speaking about the importance of today"s event, Professor Ramazan Mammadov spoke about the university"s strategy to combat plagiarism and the results of cooperation between SSU and Plagiat.pl. He noted that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to the protection of intellectual property, copyright and anti-plagiarism. The Ministry of Education, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Copyright Agency, as well as innovative projects aimed at combating plagiarism are being implemented in universities and relevant institutions in the country. The anti-plagiarism program applied at our university allows you to check bachelor"s, master"s and doctoral dissertations, as well as any other scientific and scientific-methodical works. Considering that the fight against plagiarism is a very important and urgent problem in the academic world, Sumgayit State University, on the initiative and under the leadership of Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov, cooperates with Plagiat.pl, an international company cooperating with 25 universities, institutes of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences and several publishing houses. The University has signed a 3-year contract on StrikePlagiarism.com database that allows you to check all dissertations and scientific works in the database. According to the agreement, the company"s representatives regularly hold training sessions for SSU employees on the skills and rules of using anti-plagiarism software.

Aygul Samadova, Business Development Director of Plagiat.pl, spoke about the importance of the webinar and gave detailed information about the work done by her company in this direction. She noted that Plagiat.pl is the only anti-plagiarism company represented in Azerbaijan, and Strikeplagiarism.com is the only anti-plagiarism system that conducts searches in Azerbaijani and has an interface in Azerbaijani. Strikeplagiarism.com is an anti-plagiarism system that indexes scientific journals included in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases, more than 2 billion web pages and databases of more than 1 million scientific works. Aygul Samadova also stressed that close cooperation has been established with universities, government agencies and publishing houses in order to establish the World Anti-Plagiarism Network, which serves to protect the research work of scientists, specialists and students from plagiarism. In particular, cooperation between the company and Sumgayit State University continues successfully. He noted that the comprehensive solution of anti-plagiarism measures is important in terms of improving the quality of education, creating a favorable infrastructure for the development of science, obtaining reliable information confirming the authenticity of scientific work and ensuring transparency in society. The trainer then informed the webinar participants about the new interface of the StrikePlagiarism.com anti-plagiarism system and the mechanism of the program. Aygul Samadova made a presentation on the advantages of the new interface for educational institutions and the more convenient and intuitive interface.

The questions of the participants on “Methodology for evaluating scientific papers for teachers / reviewers”, “Overview of the anti-plagiarism testing process”, “Integration with LMS, checking all types of documents and disciplinary measures” were answered at the webinar to assess the similarity report on anti-plagiarism analysis, detailed discussions were held.
