Opening the event, the dean of the faculty, associate professor Ulduz Aghayev congratulated the staff and students on the occasion of May 28 - Republic Day, noting that 102 years have passed since the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first secular democratic state in the Muslim East. He noted that our people celebrate this day with great solemnity. Because on that day, on May 28, 1918, after the Gulustan and Turkmenchay agreements, Azerbaijan, which lost its independence, lived in colonial conditions for more than a hundred years, and its culture, language and religion were suppressed, was released. On May 28, 1918, in the "Declaration of Independence", Azerbaijan was declared an independent state. From the day of its establishment, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic has made important decisions and carried out large-scale reforms during its 23-month activity. The establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was of great historical significance both for our people and on a global scale. It was important for our people because it had achieved the independence it had dreamed of for centuries. Although the republic functioned for only 23 months, it was after 70 years of Soviet slavery that Azerbaijan regained its independence in 1991 and added a new glorious page to the history of its statehood. The dean also stressed that the greatest wealth of every nation is its independent state. However, independence is not gained by chance or given as a gift. The path to independence goes through great struggles. It is up to you young people, who are our future, to preserve the independence we have gained. The dean wished success to every young person on this path. He also stressed that the high value given to our independent state, the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, at the international level shows that the developing Azerbaijani state under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev is now able to defend not only its own interests but also the interests of its strategic allies. . Taking into account that the activity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is highly appreciated by our state and people, President Ilham Aliyev declared 2018 the “Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” in our country. Today, the people of Azerbaijan are resolutely following the path opened by an unforgettable leader, and the free, independent, democratic Azerbaijan built by our national leader as a result of the unity of the current government is confidently following the strategic line set by him.

An overture to the opera "Koroglu" by the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli was performed at the event. Students of group 620 of the faculty Gunay Ahmadova, Nurana Ahmadova, student of group 623 Pakiza Mutallimova informed about the establishment and activity of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, far-sighted political figures of the time. They spoke about the establishment of the national army of Azerbaijan, the proclamation of the Azerbaijani language as the state language, the creation of our tricolor - blue, red, green flag, the first time in the Turkish-Muslim East that women are given the right to vote in our country. They noted that the people of Azerbaijan have been able to

preserve many attributes of national statehood over the past period. In 1991, the people of Azerbaijan gained independence. The modern Republic of Azerbaijan, as the political and spiritual successor of the Democratic Republic, adopted its tricolor flag, coat of arms and anthem. After 71 years, Azerbaijan regained its independence, and as a result of the far-sighted policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev, our independence became eternal and irreversible.
