CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON "ETHNIC DEPORTATIONS: HISTORICAL AND CONTEMPORARY PERIOD" IN THE FORMAT OF A VIDEO CONFERENCE HELD AT SSU
On December 17, Sumgayit State University hosted an online scientific conference on "Ethnic deportations: historical and contemporary period." The scientific conference moderated by the rector of the university Elkhan Huseynov was attended by the director of the Institute of Caucasus Studies of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, MP Musa Gasimli and historians of higher education institutions of Turkey, Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Poland and our republic.
At the closing ceremony of the conference, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Professor Ramazan Mammadov conveyed the greetings of Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov to the participants and spoke about the importance of the conference. He noted that in the first section, entitled "From the history of ethnic deportations of the peoples of the world," the historical past of deportations is always relevant to researchers in all its aspects today.
Executive Secretary of the Conference, Professor Shirkhan Salimov, Head of the Department of History of the Peoples of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe, said that the conference included scientific articles submitted from Turkey, Ukraine, Germany, Russia, Israel, and Poland on the geostrategic, geopolitical, political, legal, economic aspects of ethnic deportations, their material and spiritual impact on peoples. In the section "From the history of ethnic deportations of the peoples of the world" very interesting reports were heard on the historical deportation of Akhiska Turks, Crimean Turks, Chechens, Ingush, Karachays, Circassians, Kabardians, Balkars, Germans living in different regions of the former USSR, Hindus, Americans in Japan, Jews, Poles, Turks, Bulgarians, Mexicans, its causes and bitter consequences.
The professor noted that the speech of speakers aroused great interest, especially the speech of Fadime Tosik Dinch, a lecturer at Gaziantep University in Turkey, on "The most desolate exiles in Soviet geography from Stalin's time to the present day: Akhiska Turks" and Nargiz Nasirova, an employee of Sumgayit State University's Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science on “Deportation of ethnic Turks in 40s of XX century living in the South Caucasus".
Professor Shirkhan Salimov also stressed that the second section, entitled "Deportations against the Azerbaijani people: history and modern times", dealt with the historical deportations against the Azerbaijani people. The section meeting lasted for two days (December 17-18). The meeting attended by 34 people from 16 educational institutions (including 7 well-known doctors of historical sciences, professors).
During the presentation of the topics, the implementation of the policy of deportation of the Azerbaijani people from the XVIII century, the deportation of the Azerbaijani people from their historical lands in parallel with the resettlement of Armenians to the historical lands of Azerbaijan by Tsarist Russia in the first half of the XIX century, by the Central Government during the Soviet regime, especially in 1948-1953, and by Armenians relying on the Central Government in 1988 and about our victory in the Great Patriotic War were discussed.
The third section of the meeting "Deportations as a threat to multiculturalism" includes 13 reports. During the meeting, the issues such as Armenia's policy of vandalism and the triumph of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan, the impact of resettlement policies on Azerbaijan in the multicultural environment, the history of deportation of Azerbaijanis and multicultural threats against them, the ruthless policy of Armenians against Azerbaijanis, the threat of deportation and religious radicalism in multiculturalism, the social status of the party nomenclature in the Caucasus were reflected in the reports.
The reports continued in the form of discussions.
Section IV of the International Scientific Conference entitled "Deportation and Settlement: Economic, Social and Geographical Environmental Factors" covered 9 topics. In their speeches, the speakers spoke about the severe socio-economic impact of the expulsion of Azerbaijani Turks from their historical and ethnic lands, their inability to adapt to the geographical environment of their areas, various diseases, mass deaths and eco-geographical problems.
In addition to listening to interesting reports and new historical facts, serious scientific discussions were held at the section meeting of the conference. The participants expressed their deep gratitude to the rector of Sumgayit State University and the Organizing Committee for organizing the conference on this topic.
