On March 10, Sumgayit State University hosted an online event dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi, a prominent figure in world literature, genius Azerbaijani poet and thinker.

The event was attended by the head of the Academy of Philosophy and Sociology, Doctor of Philosophy Mail Yagub, a group of professors, teachers and students of the university.

The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations of SSU, Professor Ramazan Mammadov, who conveyed the greetings of the Rector of the University, Professor Elkhan Huseynov. He spoke about Nizami Ganjavi"s work and the state"s care for his legacy. He noted that 2021 was declared the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" in our country by the relevant Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He noted that the national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev, during his presidency in Azerbaijan, always paid special attention to the promotion and development of Azerbaijani culture, national and spiritual values and made great efforts in this direction not only in our country but also internationally. Emphasizing that national leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to the study and promotion of the rich heritage of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi, the vice-rector spoke about the purposeful measures taken in this direction in our country. He noted that the traditions started with Heydar Aliyev are being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev today. The proclamation of 2021 as the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" and the liberation of Shusha as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and the special attention paid to our national and spiritual values in the speeches of the head of state are indicators of the successful continuation of Heydar Aliyev"s policy.

The Vice-Rector said that numerous events in various formats and topics are planned to be held at Sumgayit State University within the framework of the “Nizami Ganjavi Year”. He stressed that SSU pays special attention to the events dedicated to prominent personalities and thinkers of Azerbaijan, the study of their rich heritage, the promotion of exemplary life and creative activities among the younger generation.

Professor Avtandil Mammadov, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Countries’ Literature, made a report on "The embodiment of national and moral values ​​in the image of Nizami Ganjavi"s female images." He noted that the great poet"s work has always gained a large readership because it is instructive and thought-provoking. Nizami"s work is an inexhaustible treasure not only for Azerbaijan, but also for world literature. Nizami, a philosopher and thinker of the Eastern world, promoted morality and ethics in his works. These works are still relevant today. The image of a woman has a special place in the works of the great poet.

Ali Rzazade, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and its Teaching Methods spoke on “Gender Equality in Nizami Ganjavi"s Creativity”, Mail Yagub, Head of the Academy of Philosophy and Sociology, Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy on “Female Phenomenon in Nizami Ganjavi"s Philosophical View”, Nemat Ibayev, chairman of SSU STUC on “Heroic female images in Nizami Ganjavi"s works and modern female heroes of Azerbaijan”. The speakers gave detailed information about the life, work, poetic and philosophical thoughts of Nizami Ganjavi, a prominent representative and genius of world literature, the thoughts of world-renowned orientalists about Nizami, the translation of the works of the great poet into many languages. They noted that the basis of the creative criteria of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker, great philosopher Nizami Ganjavi are female images. This issue is reflected in all the poems of "Khamsa" from the first ghazal of the poet"s work. The poet gave a wide place to this theme in "Khosrov and Shirin" and created interesting characters such as Mahin Banu and Shirin. Nizami created the image of Shirin so skillfully that this image occupies one of the most glorious places in the world literature among female images. Nizami Ganjavi"s female images reflect a greatness of motherhood, femininity, love of humanity.
