On May 8, Sumgayit State University hosted an online scientific-practical conference on "Heydar Aliyev's life and statehood activity" organized by the Faculty of History and Geography on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

After a minute of silence in memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev, the conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of History and Geography, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev. He noted that the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, world-class political figure Heydar Aliyev is a unique person who opened a new bright page in the centuries-old history of our statehood. The Dean also noted that the National Leader has always attached special importance to the protection of national solidarity and the preservation of the traditions of statehood. During the leadership of the USSR, important steps were taken under the instructions of the Great Leader to preserve and protect national and moral values, educate the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism, build human resources to achieve national strategic goals and other areas. Today's Azerbaijan is a masterpiece of Heydar Aliyev. President Ilham Aliyev carries out the task of preserving and developing this work with great dignity and skill. Under his leadership, Heydar Aliyev's policy lives on and continues successfully.

Today, our people are closely united around the political successor of the national leader - President Ilham Aliyev. The people and the state of Azerbaijan have demonstrated their strength to the world by winning a bright and convincing victory over the enemy.

Our victory in the Second Karabakh War is the result of a solid foundation laid as a result of the thoughtful and purposeful policy of the great leader Heydar Aliyev.

Afterwards Professor Shirkhan Salimov, Head of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe delivered speech on “Heydar Aliyev's Life and Statehood activity”, Lyudmila Ismayilova, senior Teacher of the Faculty of Economics and Management on “Heydar Aliyev's Concept in the Development of Our Economy”, Head of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and Political Science, Associate Professor Savvara Rzaguliyeva on “Heydar Aliyev's ideology of Azerbaijanism ”, Jala Farhadova, a teacher of the same department on “ Cultural policy of Heydar Aliyev ”, Ibrahim Zeynalli, a second-year master of Faculty of History and geography, spoke on“ Succession in the tradition of Azerbaijani statehood - Ilham Aliyev ”. The speakers opined that he was a prominent politician whose work will be studied and researched by historians for many years, works will be written, and ideas will be passed down from generation to generation.
