On May 20, Sumgayit State University and Hacettepe University of Turkey jointly organized an international scientific conference on "Actual problems of research and teaching of Turkish languages and literature" dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress.

The conference was attended by a group of linguists from many countries, research institutes and universities of our country.

The conference began with the performance of "Turkic Flag" and Anayurt Marshi, recorded in the language of the Turkic-speaking peoples and in the language of each nation with its own performer, national musical instruments. The greetings of the Turkic-speaking peoples were also shown on video.

Opening the conference, the rector of the university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, welcomed the guests and expressed satisfaction with seeing them. He noted that Turkey, as one of the first countries to recognize the sovereignty of Azerbaijan after gaining independence, has always supported our country. The wise words of the national leader Heydar Aliyev "We are one nation, two states" embodying the eternal and permanent Turkish-Azerbaijani friendship and brotherhood are an example for the citizens of both countries today. The international community has once again witnessed the fraternal level of Azerbaijani-Turkish relations. It is not only the interests of our states that unite us, but also the loyalty, trust and mutual support. As a result of the 44-day war, the Azerbaijani Army showed unprecedented heroism and liberated our historical territories, which have been under occupation for almost 30 years, from the hated enemy. There were countries that did not leave us alone on this path of victory, but always supported us. One of them is Turkey. From the first hours of the Patriotic War, the Azerbaijani people felt the support of Turkey. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has supported Azerbaijan"s cause since the first hours. Our victory resounded throughout the world. Our strength is in our unity. The rector also emphasized the participation of students and graduates of Sumgayit State University in this victory, noting that the memory of the heroes killed in the 44-day war will always live in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people and they are proud of our veterans. He noted that Turkish students studying at SSU also expressed their support for the liberation of Karabakh and sent a letter expressing their desire to go to the front. The rector stressed that Turkish-Azerbaijani relations are developing on an upward trajectory. No force can stop this development. In this regard, the rector appreciated the conference jointly organized by Sumgayit State University and Hacettepe University of Turkey and wished success to the conference.

Then the rector of Hacettepe University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Guran"s appeal was heard via video. In the application, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Guran greeted the conference participants. He thanked the rector of Sumgayit State University, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, for co-organizing the International Scientific Conference "Actual Problems of Research and Teaching of Turkish Languages and Literature" dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress and spoke about the importance of the conference. The rector spoke about the history of the university, international relations, the successful implementation of the 5-year agreement signed between SSU and Hacettepe University. Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Cahit Guran stressed the importance of cooperation with SSU, noting that he was interested in further expanding these relations in the future.

Afterwards the conference featured the speeches: Director of the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS named after M.Fuzuli, academician Teymur Karimli delivered speech on "Turkological Congress as a high peak of millennium Turkish culture", Director of the Institute of Linguistics named after I.Nasimi of ANAS, academician Mohsun Nagisoylu on "First Baku Turkological Congress and modern problems of Turkology" , Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations of Sumgayit State University, Professor Ramazan Mammadov "Phonetic structure of interlingual homophones - words with dual citizenship", Professor of Hacettepe University, Honorary Doctor of Sumgayit State University Shukru Haluk Akalin “Etymological studies at Hacettepe University: Etymological dictionary of Eren Turkish ”, Professor of Baku State University Firuza Agayeva “Prehistoric relations in the literature of Turkic peoples: Nizami and Navai ”, Professor of Gazi University Necati Demir “Historical journey of Azerbaijani Turkish and Turkish of Turkey”, Associate Professor of St. Petersburg State University Margarita Emilevna Dubrovina, “Analysis of verbs constructions, formed from verb-noun forms (-dik, -yacak, -dığı, -yacaqi, -mak, -ması, etc.) in modern Turkish language”, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and its Teaching Methods, Sumgayit State University , associate professor Boyukkhanim Eminli “Proverbs among the national and cultural values of the Azerbaijani-Turkish ethnos ". The speakers spoke about the history, activities and significance of the congress. They noted that very important common issues were discussed at the First Turkological Congress, one of the great events of its time. Literature, history, folklore, ethnography and other issues are presented here as part of the Turkological view in a broad sense.

Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Associate Professor Sevinj Hamzayeva informed about the further work of the conference and noted that the scientific conference will continue its work on 7 sections for two days.
