According to the Order signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, May 23 is celebrated annually in our country as a professional holiday of the employees of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

On May 24, Sumgayit State University hosted an online scientific-practical webinar dedicated to Ecology Day, organized by the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology.

Employees of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, including leading specialists of Sumgayit Regional Department of Ecology and Natural Resources No. 4, head of the Department of Emergency Situations and Life Safety of AZMU, head of laboratory of the Institute of Radiation Problems of ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Islam Mustafayev and professors, teachers, masters and students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of SSU, majoring in Ecology and Ecological Engineering took part in the webinar.

Opening the webinar, the head of the Ecology Department, Associate Professor Rahila Ahmadova, congratulated the ecologists on their professional holiday and noted that under the leadership of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union, a lot of work has been done in the field of environmental protection, including rare species, and great attention is paid to environmental programs and projects in Azerbaijan. She also noted that Sumgayit State University regularly holds awareness-raising events by specialists to promote environmental protection.

At the end of her speech, Rahila Ahmadova noted that under the leadership of President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, our brave Army liberated our lands occupied for almost 30 years as a result of the 44-day war, and the territorial integrity of our country was ensured. She noted that one of the main challenges of the XXI century is to ensure ecological balance. These include restricting the intensive exploitation of natural resources, oil and gas and coal production, giving preference to renewable energy sources, green and blue economies, efficient use of water resources, reducing carbon emissions, recycling and other issues. Rahila Ahmadova noted that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, as in all areas, Azerbaijan continues to work in the field of environmental balance and environmental health, informed about the work done, measures taken, future tasks and future plans.

Then, the webinar featured the speeches: master of group 337a Aynura Farhadova spoke on "Nizami Ganjavi's views on the environment", student of group 316 Gunel Shukurlu on "Presence of ionizing radiation in everyday life", students of group 335 Humay Bagirova "Soil salinization and methods of combating salinization", Nigar Ahmadova made report on “The importance of vermocomposts in land reclamation”, Gunel Akhundova on “Ecological aspects of the Kura River”, Vusal Ibrahimli, Sector Director of Sumgayit Regional Department of Ecology and Natural Resources No. 4 on “Monitoring of liberated lands”. Speakers spoke about the national program of environmental protection, the work done in the field of afforestation and protection, the organization of national parks and congratulated the ecologists on the holiday. They said that forces should be united to solve environmental problems, and the goal should be the same.

The webinar continued with a discussion of scientific reports. Numerous questions of students were answered during the discussions.
