The next online meeting of the Academic Council of Sumgayit State University was held on June 16.

Rector of the University, Chairman of the Academic Council, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, opened the meeting and informed the participants about the issues on the agenda, as well as the state of the spring exam session held online at the university in the quarantine regime due to the coronavirus pandemic, assessment of students and other important issues. Vice-rector for Science and Innovations prof. Ramazan Mammadov made a speech about holding the competition in the nomination "The best textbook and teaching aids" at SSU. He noted that the competition for the nomination "The best textbook and teaching aids" is envisaged in the Action Plan for 2021 on the implementation of the Strategic Development Plan of SSU. The main provisions of the Regulations were brought to the attention of the meeting participants. Following the discussion, the Statute was approved, taking into account the proposals made in connection with the Statute.

On the preparations for the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University, Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs Assoc. prof. Ramiz Huseynov made a speech. He noted that the 55th anniversary of SSU was held at a high level in 2017, the glorious path of the university was described in the book SSU-55, prepared and published in an elegant form. He gave detailed information about the selection of the editorial staff for the preparation of the book SSU-60 in an elegant form and the plan of publication of the book before the anniversary and the preparations for the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University. The plan was approved. At the same time, it was decided to establish a Commission to systematically and timely prepare for the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University.

About the results of the activity of the Career Center of SSU for 2019-2021 and the forthcoming tasks, the head of the Career Center Assoc. prof. Amirkhan Isayev said that the Center continues to strengthen its work with applicants, students and graduates and expand its activities. SSU Career Center closely participates in the activities of the Council of Azerbaijan Career Centers established by the State Employment Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Amirkhan Isayev noted that the Career Center will further expand its cooperation with state enterprises, the private sector, entrepreneurs and business circles, and support the employment of graduates.

The rector instructed the director of the Center, Assoc. Prof. Amirkhan Isayev, to support the students of Sumgayit State University in building their careers in the future and to further expand awareness-raising activities in this field.

During the discussion of current issues, the Scientific Secretary, Professor Mukhtar Samadov, informed about the approval of curricula for relevant specialties. He noted that at the Faculty of Engineering 050634 - "Process Automation Engineering" (Correspondence), 050616 - "Information Technology" (Correspondence), 050620 - "Computer Engineering" (Correspondence); Faculty of Physics and Power Engineering 060608 - "Electrical Engineering" Specializations: 1. Electric networks and systems, 2. Electric power 060609 - "Thermal Power Engineering", Specialization: Industrial thermal energy 060626 - “Electrical engineering”, Specialization: High voltage engineering and physics. Curricula for the specialties 050401 - "International Trade and Logistics" (Correspondence) at the Faculty of Economics and Management were submitted to the Academic Council for approval. After the discussions, the Curriculum was approved.

The doctoral dissertation of Nemat Ibayev, a doctoral student at the Department of Azerbaijani Language and its Teaching Methods, was approved as "Phraseological Semantics in Ashug Poetry" in accordance with the decision of the Problem Council on Humanities of the Coordination Council for Scientific Research of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The scientific secretary informed about the right of publication (griffin) for teaching aids. He noted that in order to grant the right to publish, the Scientific Council received a total of 5 textbooks, including 2 textbooks and 3 subject programs. The textbooks were reviewed in the departments of the Editorial and Publishing Council and the Teaching and Methodological Council of the university, and recommended to the Scientific Council with an expert opinion. After the discussions, the publication of textbooks was allowed.
