The sons of the Motherland, who were martyred for the liberation of our lands from the enemy and the restoration of the territorial integrity of our country, are the heroes of this holy war who will live forever. One of them is Shahid Tahmasib Garayev, a graduate of Sumgayit State University.

A memorial ceremony for Martyr Tahmasib Garayev was held in Kabirli village of Agjabadi region on October 23. Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management of Sumgayit State University, Associate Professor Aynura Yahyayeva, Deputy Deans Sadagat Aliyeva, Araz Mirzabeyov, Head of the Department of Business Organization and Management Galib Huseynov and a group of students attended and laid a wreath at the tomb of the martyr on behalf of the leadership of Sumgayit State University.

Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, Hikmet Garayev, the father of the martyr, said that it is a great honor to be a martyr in the way of the motherland, land and people: "Tahmasib"s greatest wish was to liberate our native lands from Armenian oppression. Thank God, thanks to our brave sons like Tahamsib, our homeland was cleansed of the enemy and the territorial integrity of our state was ensured. Heroes like Tahamsib are an example for the younger generation. I am proud of my son. Today, as a martyr"s father, my greatest consolation is that our esteemed people will always honor the memory of Tahmasib. May God have mercy on all our martyrs and give health to our veterans”.

Scientists of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University shared their memories of the martyr Tahmasib Garayev. They said that Tahmasib was a very educated, patriotic and brave young man: “We will always be proud of our martyr. His way of fighting, his bravery is an example for every Azerbaijani youth. They said that thousands of our young volunteers took up arms and carried out the combat missions of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Ilham Aliyev, at a high level, and our historical lands were quickly liberated from the enemy. Thanks to the far-sighted policy, strong will and correct decisions of President Ilham Aliyev, 30 years of longing for the homeland have come to an end. We would like to note with high pride that students and graduates of our native university are among those who raised the tricolor Victory Flag in our ancient lands freed from Armenian slavery. The victory was not only the greatest victory of 2020, but also the greatest victory of recent centuries! In this Battle of Victory, dozens of graduates, students and employees of Sumgayit State University and their families fought heroically, showed courage and won the title of victorious soldier. The victory in the Great Patriotic War also cost the blood of thousands of our martyrs. We bow to the souls of our martyrs with deep respect and reverence, we remember their memory together”.

It should be noted that, Garayev Tahmasib Hikmet oglu was born on May 18, 1996 in Kabirli village of Agjabedi region. In 2003, he entered the first grade of Kabirli village secondary school named after M.A. Sabir. After graduating from that school in 2013, he entered the Faculty of Economics and Management of Sumgayit State University. After graduating from the same university in 2017, he began serving in the Special Forces. After completing his service, he joined the courses again and continued his service and received the rank of Gizir.

He took part in the Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020, for the liberation of Murov Heights, Jabrayil, Fizuli and Gubadli regions. According to his comrades-in-arms, he was heroically killed on October 22, 2020 during the fierce fighting in the area called the Girmizi Bazar. He was buried on October 23, 2020 in Kabirli village cemetery of Agjabadi region. After his death, he was awarded medals for the sake of Jabrayil, Kalbajar and the Motherland.
