AN EDUCATIONAL EVENT ON "COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING" AT SSU
On November 16, Sumgayit State University hosted an educational event on "Combating Human Trafficking" in compliance with quarantine rules.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief of Sumgayit City Police Office, Lieutenant Colonel Anar Aliyev, Chief of Sumgayit City Police Department for Preventive Work with Minors, Major Azer Bagirov, Psychologist of the Center for Assistance to Victims of Human Trafficking of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ulvi Zeynalov, chairman of the Public Union "Support to Police", retired police colonel Shamsaddin Aliyev and faculty members and students of the university.
The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs of the University, Associate Professor Ramiz Huseynov, who greeted the guests and spoke about the importance and significance of awareness-raising activities to combat human trafficking, which is a universal problem. He noted that every year thousands of people, mostly women and children, fall victim to human trafficking for exploitation or other purposes. Speaking about the importance of saving human lives, the vice-rector called on civil society to be more active in this area.
At the event, Deputy Chief of Sumgayit City Police Office, Lieutenant-Colonel Anar Aliyev noted that in order to expand the fight against human trafficking, the Ministry for Internal Affairs has developed and implemented a regular action plan, raising awareness of methods of combating human trafficking and terrorism in all educational institutions of Azerbaijan, especially at universities. He said that every citizen should be with law enforcement agencies in the fight against human trafficking.
Azer Bagirov informed the students about the consequences of human trafficking, as well as the measures taken in our country to combat this scourge. He stressed the role of international and local non-governmental organizations, the media partnership in communicating the achievements in the fight against human trafficking to the public, the protection of human rights, the institution of the family and its proper formation in each country.
Ulvi Zeynalov, psychologist of the Center for Assistance to Victims of Human Trafficking of the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the current situation in the fight against human trafficking, the activities of the aid center and rehabilitation measures.
Shamsaddin Aliyev, Chairman of the “Support to Police” Public Union, said that human trafficking as a social and legal phenomenon has a negative impact on the normal development of the public body. He informed the citizens about the important aspects of the state policy on combating crime in order to warn and prevent it.
Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs, Associate Professor Ramiz Huseynov thanked the guests for the extensive information on the fight against human trafficking, and praised the work done by the Government of Azerbaijan in this direction.
Then a video on the topic was shown and discussions were held on the topic, booklets were distributed to the participants of the event.
