A SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL WEBINAR ON
On November 17, the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology organized a scientific-practical webinar on "Restoration work in the liberated territories" dedicated to Victory Day.
The webinar was attended by Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences, Professor Alovsat Guliyev, Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Soil Science of Baku State University Professor Nazim Shamilov, Head of the Department of Geographical Ecology Akif Agababali, Acting Head of the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry, Faculty of Biology, BSU, Professor Rovshan Khalilov, Head of the Department of Science and Innovations of Mingachevir State University, Associate Professor Vugar Mustafayev and other employees of MSU, Deputy Directors of Azersu Sukanal Research and Design Institute : PhD Elnur Nasirov, PhD Rashail Ismayilov, Chief of Sumgayit Regional Department No. 4 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Piriyev Farid Alamdar oglu, leading consultant Vusal Ibrahimli and other employees, scientists of other universities operating in the country, Employees of the Institute of Geography of ANAS named after academician Hasan Aliyev, management and staff of the Child and Youth Development Center No. 1 of Sumgayit, as well as faculty members and students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of SSU.
First, the memory of the martyrs of the Great Patriotic War was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Opening the webinar, SSU Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Professor Ramazan Mammadov, congratulated the participants on Victory Day and spoke about the importance of the historic victory. He noted that last year the military-economic and socio-political life of our country was rich in important historical events for centuries. The culmination of these events was the 44-day self-defense counter-offensive of our glorious army, which began on September 27, 2020 under the command of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, and the great victory in the Great Patriotic War. With this victory, the whole world realized that Azerbaijan is a country capable of returning its territories peacefully at the expense of the blood and lives of heroic sons and martyrs, both militarily and at the expense of the political and diplomatic will and strength of the state leadership. As a result of the Great Patriotic War, Azerbaijan"s prestige in the international arena has increased, it has been strengthened as an important center of power and political will in the world, new global, regional and local economic projects have been launched and a number of large-scale projects are underway.
The head of the Department of Ecology, Associate Professor Rahila Ahmadova, said that Armenia had destroyed settlements, material and cultural monuments, cemeteries in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan for about 30 years, causing serious damage to the environment. After our historic victory over the enemy, the head of state repeatedly visited the liberated territories and demonstrated the Armenian savagery to the world. Now construction and reconstruction works are in full swing in those areas. Associate Professor Rahila Ahmadova also noted that the State Program for Socio-Economic Development of Regions is being successfully implemented throughout the country.
Speaking on the involvement of young people in environmentally innovative projects, Associate Professor Rahila Ahmadova stressed the role of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of the IDEA Public Union. She noted that on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, a project entitled "Youth participation in the environmental assessment of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan" was launched. The project will study the damage caused to nature as a result of 30 years of Armenian occupation, study international experience for the restoration of territories and develop a methodology and rules for measuring the scale of environmental damage, implemented by IDEA, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Azerbaijan Youth Foundation. As a result of this project, the ecological condition of the liberated territories will be assessed with the participation of young people.
The following speakers delivered speech in the webinar: Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Professor Alovsat Guliyev on "Ways to solve water problems in the liberated territories", Acting Head of the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry of Baku State University, Professor Rovshan Khalilov on “Study of paramagnetic properties of plants in the liberated lands”, “Azersu” Sukanal Research and Design Institute bfd Elnur Nasirov on “Water sources in the liberated territories and their role in drinking water supply”, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Leading consultant of the regional office Vusal Ibrahimli made a report on "Consequences of environmental terrorism in Karabakh", Head of the Department of Ecology, Associate Professor Rahila Ahmadova on "Involvement of youth in environmentally innovative projects", Senior Lecturer of the Department of Ecology Tunzala Babayeva on "Biodiversity of liberated lands." They noted that during the year after the war, the President visited the liberated territories, including Shusha, Fizuli, Kalbajar and Lachin regions, the Ahmadbayli-Fuzuli-Shusha Victory Road, as well as international airports in Fizuli, Zangilan and Lachin regions and other large-scale work is a guarantee of new economic development and a great return.
