The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Ufa State Oil Technical University and Sumgait State University organized the II International Scientific Conference on "Innovative Development Perspectives of Chemical Technology and Engineering" on November 18.

The conference was dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi.

The conference was attended by scientists from Azerbaijani and Russian universities.

Opening the conference, Rector of Sumgayit State University Professor Elkhan Huseynov greeted the conference participants, noting that 2021 has been declared the "Year of Nizami Ganjavi" by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Events dedicated to the 880th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker are being held in many countries around the world, including the Russian Federation. Rector expressed deep gratitude to the rector of USPTU Oleg Alexandrovich Baulin. He noted that the genius poet, having encyclopedic knowledge, expressed valuable ideas in physics, astronomy, chemistry, geography, biological sciences and medicine, and the poet"s "Khamsa" was translated into many European languages. Then the rector Elkhan Huseynov informed about the achievements of the university in international programs and projects. He expressed confidence that today"s conference will further strengthen inter-university cooperation, as well as contribute to the development of chemistry. He noted that this scientific conference is traditional because the first was successfully held 4 years ago in 2017 in Sumgayit and was dedicated to the 55th anniversary of our university. “In 2018, our delegation took part in the anniversary events of USPTU. The main purpose of the conference, which is being held for the second time, is to bring together scientists and chemists from different countries of the world, united around common interests and problems, in the same geographical area.” The rector also noted that Sumgayit State University successfully continues its work as a partner in several international projects. As a result of these successes, a cooperation agreement was signed between SSU and USPTU in 2015. Close multifaceted relations between Sumgayit State University and Ufa State Petroleum Technological University were established after the establishment of the Russian-Azerbaijani University Association. Academician Ramil Nazifovich Bakhtizin played an important role in the expansion of relations with Russia. At present, these relations are successfully continuing under the leadership of the new rector, our dear friend Baulin Oleg Alexandrovich.

Rector of USPTU Oleg Alexandrovich Baulin greeted the co-chair of the Association from Azerbaijan, Rector of SSU Professor Elkhan Huseynov, and the conference participants, stressed the importance of expanding and wished success to the conference. He noted that holding such conferences is important in the scientific work of young researchers. They expressed confidence that these relations will contribute to the education of both countries.

Prof. Ramazan Mammadov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations of SSU, Ramil Bakhtizin, Honorary Doctor of SSU, Academician, Nail Janishev, Vice-Rector for International Development of USPTU, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of SSU Mahal Muradov, Dean of the Faculty of Technology of USPTU Farhad Vildanov spoke about the close cooperation between the two universities and the importance of the invaluable treasure created by the great poet Nizami Ganjavi. They said that the literary heritage of the great poet belongs not only to Eastern culture but to all mankind.

They noted that holding such conferences contributes to the study and research of Nizami Ganjavi"s legacy.

The conference will continue for two days in sections.
