On November 24, in the Great Assembly Hall of Sumgayit State University, in accordance with the quarantine rules, the Student Trade Union Committee of the University and the Student Youth Organization organized a literary reading competition among students of SSU and Sumgayit State Technical College under SSU dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi.

A series of events, knowledge contests, debates, poetry and drawing competitions dedicated to the poet's jubilee are being held at Sumgayit State University within the framework of the "Nizami Ganjavi Year" announced by the relevant order of the President. The literary reading competition is similar.

The director of the club Khalida Guliyeva spoke about the importance of the competition. She noted that holding competitions among students aimed at promoting the rich cultural heritage of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi is the only guarantee for our future success, increasing attention to building a healthy society, instilling deep-rooted spiritual values in the new generation. “The experience gained in the field of cultural history proves that the national and spiritual values, which are the main indicator of a nation's existence, are its most valuable asset. President Ilham Aliyev, as in all spheres, is in a place of sustainable policy in terms of protection of national and spiritual values, protection of Azerbaijani culture, creation of favorable conditions for the harmony of classical and modern cultural heritage. By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 2021 has been declared the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” in our country. This is a manifestation of the high attitude of our state and the head of state to the pearls of our ancient culture, their preservation, our national and spiritual values, our classical heritage. Today, the national and human ideas of Nizami's legacy are widely studied and taught.”

Professor Rafig Aliyev, a lecturer at the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Literature, Afat Rafiyeva, a senior lecturer at the Department of Azerbaijani and Foreign Literature, Ali Rzazadeh, a senior lecturer at the Department of Azerbaijani Language and its Teaching Methods, and Balakishi Isgandarov, a teacher at the Folklore Research Laboratory, participated in the literary reading competition.

Participants were evaluated by the jury on 10 points. The participant with the highest score won the competition.

At the end, the names of the winners of the competition were announced: Sevinj Abilzadeh, a first-year student of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Aysel Mirzali, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Philology, and Amil Mammadov, a second-year student of the Faculty of Philology were awarded first, second and third place respectively.
