An online meeting of the Scientific Council was held at Sumgayit State University on December 15.

Rector Professor Elkhan Huseynov greeted the members of the Scientific Council, faculty, congratulated Associate Professor Khalida Hasanova on her election as Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and wished her success in her responsible position. Then he informed about the issues on the agenda. He noted that a congratulatory letter was prepared on behalf of the staff of SSU in connection with the 60th anniversary of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. On behalf of the SSU staff, the Rector congratulated the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on his jubilee anniversary for his valuable work for the welfare and prosperity of the people and state of Azerbaijan. He noted that the military victory of our heroic Armed Forces under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev a year ago is one of the most important events in the history of Azerbaijan"s independence. As a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, written in golden letters in history, crushing blows were inflicted on the Armenian armed forces, as a result of which historical justice was restored. During the war, our people united around the Supreme Commander-in-Chief like a fist. The Rector sincerely congratulated the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on his 60th anniversary and wished him good health, family happiness, and success in effective and responsible public administration.

The congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev was read by the Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs Ramiz Huseynov and it was decided to send a congratulatory letter on behalf of the staff.

Then the rector spoke about the work done to prepare for the exam session of the autumn semester of the 2021/2022 academic year. He said that the Minister of Education Emin Amrullayev signed an order on the organization of the examination session of the autumn semester of the 2021-2022 academic year in higher and secondary special education institutions. According to the order, the exam session of the autumn semester of the current academic year will be held in person at these educational institutions from January 3, 2022. Necessary measures are being taken in this direction at Sumgayit State University and one of the most important issues in focus today is the "Guidelines for the prevention of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) during examinations", and “Organization of teaching and learning process in educational institutions operating in the Republic of Azerbaijan during the special quarantine regime” approved by the Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 332 of September 10, 2020.

Faig Shirinov, Director of the Teaching Methodological Center, spoke about the state of preparation for the exam session of the autumn semester of the 2021/2022 academic year and noted that the deans and heads of departments were instructed to prepare, approve and post exam schedules in a timely manner, prepare exam tickets and submit them to the Teaching Methodological Center, as well as regularly check academic journals and monitor student attendance.

The head of the scientific department, associate professor Samir Orujov, reported on the research work carried out at SSU in 2021. He noted that SSU faculty, heads of departments and deans of faculties were instructed to increase the efficiency of scientific research, publish the results in high-index journals, increase efforts to publish articles with foreign experts in the journal "Scientific News".

The rector positively assessed the inclusion of both sections of SSU "Scientific News" magazine (section of natural and technical sciences, section of humanities) in the high scientific-analytical database - Russian Scientific Reference Index (RINC) and instructed the Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, Professor Ramazan Mammadov, and the Head of the Scientific Department, Associate Professor Samir Orujov, to take the necessary measures at the next stage to access the Scopus International Scientific Database.

Vice-Rector for International Relations, Associate Professor Gafar Atayev informed about the visit of the delegation of Ufa State Oil Technical University to Sumgayit State University. He noted that the co-chair of the Association of Russian-Azerbaijani Universities from the Republic of Azerbaijan is the rector of our university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, and it further expanded the relations of SSU with Russian universities. During the visit, the sides exchanged views on bilateral and multilateral relations between SSU and USOTU.

Ramiz Huseynov, Vice-Rector for Humanitarian Affairs, spoke about the events held at SSU in connection with the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi. He noted that the action plan to declare 2021 the Year of Nizami was prepared at the beginning of the year and approved at the meeting of the Scientific Council on 10.02.2021, and all the events envisaged for 2021 were implemented at a high level.

Holding a literary-artistic composition "Treasure of Wisdom" dedicated to the 880th anniversary of Nizami Ganjavi live in the Assembly Hall in strict compliance with all the rules related to the pandemic, organizing book and photo exhibitions reflecting Nizami Ganjavi"s artistic heritage and creativity, the publication of a collection of articles entitled "World fame of the artist", the development and publication of a textbook "Nizami"s world of music", a song contest based on Nizami"s poems, a sports spartakiad dedicated to Nizami"s 880th anniversary, intellectual competitions and other events were praised.

Vice-Rector for Economic Affairs Naib Hajiyev informed about the rules of use of the dormitory by SSU students. He noted that the repair and reconstruction of the SSU dormitory was carried out in compliance with all the rules and restrictions required in connection with the pandemic, all work was carried out with high quality, taking into account all the issues for the convenience of students. The deans of the faculties were instructed to determine the students who will live in the dormitory as the main criterion, taking into account the most needy, coming from the regions and other factors.
