OUR STUDENT WAS AWARDED A CERTIFICATE AT THE INTERNATIONAL MODEL UN CONFERENCE IN ISTANBUL
The International Model UN Conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey from 6 to 9 January to establish the World Sustainable Development Goals - 2030 (SDGs) Agenda.
The purpose of the conference is to provide young people with the most accurate simulations of the sessions of the UN diplomatic committees, which address and work on global issues in the frame of the UN Charter. The conference consisted of sessions that gave young diplomats the opportunity to connect with people who want to play a role in changing the world and who want to be tomorrow"s leaders, instilling in them vital skills such as diplomacy, negotiation and policy making.
The conference was attended by Elnur Ahmadov-Assistant of the Department of Petrochemistry and Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Chemistry and Biology, SSU, and Farid Abbaszadeh, a third-course student of the Faculty of History and Geography. Our student became the only participant of the event representing Azerbaijan in the United Nations General Assembly. Farid Abbaszadeh participated in the Assembly and was awarded a certificate.
On the first day of the conference, participants from different countries got acquainted with each other, next day, committee sessions and debates were held in these sessions. Our student Farid Abbaszadeh spoke and shared his views about alternative energy sources with the participants. On the 3rd day of the conference, the tour to Istanbul and the final closing ceremony were held. At the closing ceremony, representatives from different countries shared their national traditions.
It should be noted that representatives from 46 countries attended at the conference.
