On April 7, an event entitled "The glorious path of the Yerevan Teachers' Seminary in the history of education in Azerbaijan - 140 years"  was held  at  the Scientific Library of Sumgayit State University

The event was opened by the director of the Scientific Library Naila Amrahova, who greeted the participants and made a report on "The place of the Yerevan Teachers' Seminary in the history of Azerbaijan." He noted that the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the Yerevan Teachers' Seminary was an important historical event. This confirms the existence of the cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani Turks in the territory of the Iravan province during the reign of Tsarist Russia. The existence of the Yerevan Teachers' Seminary proves that the ancient lands of the Azerbaijani turks, the ancestral land of Western Azerbaijan, had a deep-rooted, well-founded enlightenment, science, education and culture. The Yerevan Teachers' Seminary was established in 1881. During its 37 years of existence, this educational institution  played an important role in the development of public schools and education, cultural and educational work in the South Caucasus, including Azerbaijan.

Then Ragsana Abdurahmanova, head of the Information and Bibliography department, “Restoration of historical memory is to achieve future goals”, Khatira Aliyeva, chief librarian of the Reading room, “Emergency schools in the South Caucasus in the 70s of the XIX century”, Tahmina Agakishiyeva, librarian of the Art Department , operator of the vice-rector's office for Humanitarian Affairs, deputy chairman of the Territorial First Party Organization SSU 01 Parizad Rahimova on "The value given by the great leader Heydar Aliyev to the teacher of Azerbaijan" participated at the event. They noted that the spread and development of pedagogical science in Azerbaijan, a whole period of public education was associated with the activities of graduates of the Yerevan Teachers' Seminary. These graduates were closely involved in the elimination of illiteracy among the masses. The place and role of this educational institution in the history of our national education is still studied, researched, increased the scientific and pedagogical knowledge of the young generation and students.

The speakers also noted that the great leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to the development of science, education and culture throughout his career. This was not accidental. Because this genius person knew well that the only way for the progress of Azerbaijan is in the higher education and enlightenment of the people. The return of the Great Leader to power brought a new atmosphere to Azerbaijani culture. Educators and intellectuals were taken care of by the state. Dozens of artists were awarded honorary titles, presidential scholarships and various awards. Anniversaries of several forgotten cultural figures were celebrated. Today, we can proudly say that the policy of Heydar Aliyev, the strategy of national statehood, which he founded, is successfully continued by his worthy successor, president Ilham Aliyev.

In conclusion, the chairman of the Student Trade Union Committee Nemat Ibayev spoke about the fundamental position of the Yerevan Teachers' Seminary in the formation of our history of education and pedagogical thought, the history of enlightenment and national culture. Emphasizing the importance of such events, he thanked the organizers.
