Biologists were in the excursion at the Institute of Zoology of ANAS
On April 26, the second year students of the 338th group of the faculty of Chemistry and biology on the specialty of Biology visited the Institute of Zoology of ANAS under the leadership of Aysel Agayeva the head teacher of the department of Biology and its teaching methods.
During the excursion the students visited the Zoological Museum of the Institute and the Laboratory of Dry Invertebrates.
We should say that the Scientific Research Institute of Zoology founded in 1936 was established in 1945 after the free operation of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Since the beginning of the XX century the samples obtained by Azerbaijani and foreign scientists studying the fauna of the Republic in the form of collection materials in the laboratories of the Institute of Zoology, storage and regular enrichment with new exhibits became the basis for the establishment of the Zoological Museum. In order to study, preserve and promote biodiversity the Zoological Museum was established in 1971 by the decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences. Students got acquainted with 1703 exhibits from the fauna of Azerbaijan and the world in the exposition fund of the Zoological Museum consisting of scarecrows, skeletons, kicks, wet preparations and prepared in the form of a collection. According to the guide, 314 of them have been included in the museum's exposition fund in the last 10 years. Also, 257 of the exhibits belong to different classes of vertebrates.
Director of the museum dos. Sabina Bunyatova met with students and gave detailed information about the museum. She also informed the students about the forthcoming Red Book and international projects to which the institute has joined.
Then in the laboratory of "Dry Invertebrates" dos. Sakina Hajiyeva provided information the students with the rich collection of insects, studied their species composition, distribution, zoogeographical distribution, as well as their economic importance, bioecological characteristics of promising species, study of various types of insects that damage agricultural, park and ornamental plants, their pests and distribution. She also spoke about the discovery of biodiversity of entomophages, which play a role in their number regulation, their role in the number regulation of pests, the definition of their use in biological control.
The students said that they had mastered the subjects "Vertebrate Zoology" and "Entomology" better with the help of visual aids observed as a result of the excursion.
