An event called "Free Shusha" dedicated to the "Year of Shusha" was held on May 5 at the faculty of Mathematics of Sumgayit State University.

The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was first sounded at the event. Then the memory of the martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Opening the event, the dean of the faculty, associate professor Khalida Hasanova said taking into account the historical significance, high cultural and spiritual value of Shusha for the people of Azerbaijan by the relevant Order of President Ilham Aliyev, the proclamation of 2022 as the "Year of Shusha" in the Republic of Azerbaijan is of great historical significance. We lost  Susha on May 8, 1992  was returned 28 years later on November 8, 2020  under the leadership of our Supreme Commander-in-Chief. On the eve of the National Flag Day, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev gave the good news that our people were looking forward to on a historic day. Today, the Azerbaijani flag is flying in Shusha. Azerbaijan may not have experienced so much joy and pride in the last century, we have never seen so much love for the flag. Rejoicing in this historic good news, our people once again demonstrated their love for our flag and victory by waving our tricolor flags in all cities and regions of Azerbaijan. On November 8, 2020, when our flag was hoisted in Shusha, it was forever engraved in the history of Azerbaijan. Today, the head of state celebrates the most important days in the life of the country  in Shusha.

The event was followed by an unforgettable speech by Ilham Aliyev delivering the liberation of Shusha to the people.

Poems about Shusha were performed by students, the video "Shusha yesterday, today, tomorrow" was watched with interest.

Performances staged by students, reflecting historical moments were shown. Information was given about the Shusha branch of the scientific center operating in Shusha - ASPU.

Agil Hasanov, a student of the faculty of Mathematics who took part in the 44-day war and was awarded medals for the liberation of Khojavend and Fuzuli by the order of President Ilham Aliyev spoke at the event. He said that the brave sons of Azerbaijan wrote a heroic history in the battles for Shusha and that the liberation of Shusha which was considered an impregnable fortress and had a harsh relief, was one of the most perfect tactical battles in world military history.

The event continued with a speech  associate professor Zafar Huseynov. Sharing his memories as a resident of Shusha, Zafar Huseynov stressed that the people of Azerbaijan have longed for the occupation of Shusha for nearly thirty years, but did not reconcile with this injustice. The 44-day Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020 was  resulted  with the glorious victory of Azerbaijan. As a result of the heroism of the Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of Muzaffar Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev our lands were liberated from occupation. Every day of the Patriotic War was written in the history of Azerbaijan as a glorious day and the sacred tricolor flag of Azerbaijan waved  in our liberated lands. Every day was  joy, pride, and one step closer to victory for the people of Azerbaijan . On the 43rd day of the Great Patriotic War which put an end to 30 years of longing for land, Muzaffar Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev addressed the people from the Alley of Martyrs and announced the liberation of Shusha from occupiers. The history of the liberation of Shusha, the crown of Karabakh was the peak of our victory.

At the end, a song about Shusha was performed. The  Nightingale badges were distributed to each participant of the event.
