A subject olympiad on the history of Azerbaijan was held at SSU
A subject olimpiad on the history of Azerbaijan was held "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Sumgayit State University organized by the faculty of History and geography on June 10 among the pupils of IX-XI grades of the city secondary schools. Holding subject olympiads has already become a tradition at our university.
At the opening of the olympiad professor Ramazan Mammadov vice-rector for Science and innovation of Sumgayit State University spoke about the importance and purpose of the olympiad. He noted that the purpose of organizing the olympiad is to create interest in science at an early age among teenagers, to identify talented students, to create conditions for them to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a healthy competitive environment, to instill in them a sense of patriotism, to form them as citizens who love their homeland.
Speaking about the advantages of the subject of history, the vice-rector said that history is one of the main pillars of the national consciousness of each nation. History is a science that studies the most important events in the life of mankind, including individual peoples, from ancient times to the present day.
Inspired by the rich statehood and military history of our great ancestors, the people of Azerbaijan proved to the whole world that they are a victorious people by writing another glorious chronicle of our military history and won a historic victory over the enemy.
Professor Ramazan Mammadov wished the students success in the olympiad.
We should say that 218 students from 41 high schools and 4 lyceums operating in Sumgayit participated in the olympiad on the history of Azerbaijan. The questions presented to the students in two versions were compiled by the staff of the department "History of the peoples of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe".
For 90 minutes, students answered the questions.
At the end of the olympiad the winners were awarded diplomas and prizes, and the distinguished participants were awarded incentive diplomas.
