September 27 is celebrated as Memorial Day in Azerbaijan. Memorial Day, established according to the Decree of President Mr. Ilham Aliyev dated December 2, 2020 is an expression of deep respect for our soldiers and officers who fought heroically in the Patriotic War and died for the territorial integrity of our country, as well as all our martyrs.

On September 26, Sumgayit State University held a conference on "The Victory Way that started on September 27" in connection with Memorial Day.

First, the dear memory of our martyrs who died for the freedom and territorial integrity of our Motherland was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Rector of the university, professor Elkhan Huseynov opened the conference with his opening speech and noted that today our nation, millions of people  are living with great pride for the Victory we won in the 44-day Patriotic war. This is a proud moment. In the second Karabakh war, under the leadership of our Commander-in-Chief, the Azerbaijani army gave  the enemy a lesson that will not be forgotten throughout history.

The war that started on September 27, 2020 ended with victory. The occupied lands of Azerbaijan for nearly 30 years were freed from occupation. The liberation of these lands from occupation became a reality with the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and the strength of the  Army of Azerbaijan.

Professor Elkhan Huseynov also noted that the memory of our martyrs is always remembered at Sumgayit State University.The  families of the martyrs are visited, care and attention is shown to them. It is no coincidence that when the Patriotic War began, a group of students and employees of our university joined the ranks of our victorious army as volunteers and participated in the battles against the enemy when our Commander-in-Chief announced partial mobilization.

At the end of his speech, the rector wished God"s mercy to all our martyrs who died in the Patriotic War and patience to their families.

The dean of the faculty of History and geography, professor Adil Bakhshaliyev delivered a report on the topic  "The end of  30-year occupation that begins on September 27, 2020". He said that Azerbaijan freed its lands from occupation during the 44-day Patriotic war and waved its tricolor flag in those territories. 30 years of longing, pain and suffering ended. Today, we bow to the souls of our martyrs who gave us this victory. They wrote the new history of Azerbaijan and their names were forever engraved in our history.

The following participants made reports in the different topics: professor Shirkhan Salimov, head of the department of history of the peoples of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe "The beginning and progress of the war", head of the department of Philosophy, sociology and political science, associate professor Savvara Rzaguliyeva, "People"s army union during the Patriotic war", the student of the faculty of History and geography, participant in the war, veteran Sahib Mansimov on "Memories from the Patriotic war", Club director Khalida Guliyeva "No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten". They said that in the Patriotic war that started on September 27, 2020 and lasted for 44 days, our , brave and heroic sons proved once again that if a nation gives martyrdom, then that nation is a great nation. One of the brighest pages of the  Azərbaycan history, which was won in the second Karabakh war was written with the leadership of the  Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the bravery of the National army, the unity of the people and the state.
