Starting from October 17, the spartakiade of the students of SSU and the Sumgait State Technical College dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Sumgait State University was started in 4 interfaculty sports (volleyball, table tennis, checkers and chess).

The vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university, associate professor Elmar Khalilov opened the event, greeted the student-athletes , wished them success, noted that the state care for physical education and sports in our republic is increasing day by day.Sport is developing in our country at a high pace. The national leader of our nation Heydar Aliyev constantly focused on all areas of the country"s life, including the development of sports and paid attention and care to the wide spread of mass sports. A successive follower of the Great Leader"s political course President Mr. Ilham Aliyev is today the supporter   of sports and athletes in our country. Docent Elmar Khalilov also noted that education of the young generation in a healthy and patriotic spirit occupies an important place in the state policy of Azerbaijan. Currently, the youth of Azerbaijan is distinguished by its activity   in all spheres of public life and plays an important role in the implementation of political, economic, humanitarian, sports and social events. The 44-day Second Karabakh war revealed how great the love of the land and homeland is in the youth of Azerbaijan. The head of our state Mr. Ilham Aliye said "Forward, Azerbaijani soldier!" Our young people responded to his call, took up arms with great enthusiasm, freed our lands from occupation and waved our tricolor flag.

Then, the chairman of the Trade Union Committee of SSU associate professor Nemat Ibayev emphasized the importance of spartakiade for the sports of the country and talked about the role of such events in training and education of the young generation. He said that our university achieves great success not only in education, but also in sports. We are proud that we have student athletes who represent our country in the world of international sports.

Associate professor Nemat Ibayev also spoke about the role of the Sports Club of SSU in the field of training professional sports teachers and athletes, and the successes achieved by the club"s students in our country and international arenas.
