On December 28, a scientific-practical conference  "Shusha-270" dedicated to the "Year of Shusha" was held at Sumgayit State University.

First, the dear memory of our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our land was commemorated with a minute of silence.

Vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations associate professor Elmar Khalilov opened the conference and spoke about the importance of the conference. He stated that Shusha is of historical necessity  and high cultural and moral value for our people, and thanks to the decisive leadership of our Commander-in-Chief  Ilham Aliyev, the bravery of our heroic soldiers and officers, the liberation of this city from the Armenian occupation on November 8, 2020 was the reason for the Victory. noted that. Speaking about the complex and systematic measures implemented by the state in order to restore the previous historical appearance and cultural spirit of Shusha immediately after the Karabakh Victory associate professor Elmar Khalilov said that according to the relevant decrees of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the declaration of the city of Shusha as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan and the year 2022 as the "Year of Shusha" are of great historical significance. The vice-rector talked about the series of events, exhibitions and competitions organized in Sumgayit State University in connection with the "Year of Shusha" and  noted that the events will contribute to the promotion of the heritage of our cultural capital. The  main goal of today"s scientific-practical conference is to present the results of research on Karabakh to the scientific institution.

The following participants made a speech: professor Shirkhan Salimov - head of the department of history of the peoples of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe, "Political history of the Shusha city", senior lecturer of that department Samin Gocayev "Strategic importance of the  Shusha city", head of the department of literature of Azerbaijan and foreign countries professor Avtandil Mammadov "Cradle of culture -Shusha", department of History and geography  IV year students Songul Karimzade  "The liberation of Shusha city is the peak of the Patriotic war, the celebration of victory", Farid Abbaszade "The improvement and construction works carried out in Shusha city are the blessing  of the return". They said that today, with the special attention and care of the president Ilham Aliyev Shusha is developing day by day, restoring its historical glory and trying to quickly return to its happy days before the occupation. Shusha"s greatest joy is being reunited with her natives, whom it has longed for  years.

Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev -dean of the faculty of History and geography  made a speech and noted that the Azerbaijan Armed Forces liberated Shusha - the pearl of Karabakh  from Armenian occupation two years ago, wrote a glorious history and spoke about the importance of the decree signed by the head of state regarding the declaration of 2022 as the "Year of Shusha". Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev drew attention to the fact that the city of Shusha, which was founded in 1752 by Karabakh khan Panahali khan and celebrated its 270th anniversary this year, had a rich development path and played an exceptional role in the cultural,  social and political life of Azerbaijan and the entire South Caucasus. This city  which has always preserved its unique historical appearance has written indelible pages in our annal of literary, cultural, scientific and social thought with its great personalities.
