On March 28, Sumgayit State University held an awarding ceremony for the winners of the Mathematics Subject Olympiad dedicated to the International Day of Mathematics.

At the meeting, the dean of the faculty of Mathematics, associate professor Khalida Hasanova greeted the event participants and Olympiad winners, expressed her gratitude to Sumgayit State University rector professor Elkhan Huseynova and head of Absheron-Khizi Regional Education Department Ilhama Abdullayeva for their support in organizing the Olympiad. She spoke about the Olympiads and the events carried out by Sumgayit State University in the field of work with talented children in recent years. She stated that the purpose of holding the Olympiad is to create interest in science in teenagers at an early age in accordance with the Decree dated January 26, 2015, signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in the "Development Strategy of Azerbaijan Youth in 2015-2025". The dean also noted that in addition to showing that he is a worthy follower of Heydar Aliyev"s ideas with his activities, the head of state proved himself to be a true political leader with his ability to quickly adapt to the new process and his ability to protect the stable national interests of the country in the conditions of changing global and regional realities. The goal of youth policy in our country is to enable young people to become active and responsible Azerbaijani citizens who defend human rights and democratic life as a strategy that supports the values of education, democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Today, the youth of Azerbaijan is able to integrate into the society, to play an active role both in the civil society and in the labor market. Today, young people are actively involved in universities, schools, start-up business and government affairs. In this direction, one of the main goals of SSU is to achieve the unity of science and education, to provide quality education in accordance with modern standards at all educational levels for the mastery of global competences, to focus on solving the real problems created by the world industrial revolution, to increase the quality of research supporting the high-tech industry, continuously is to contribute to education and society by supporting innovation.

Then, the head of the department of Mathematics and its teaching methodology associate professor Maftun Heydarova made a presentation on the analysis of the results of the Mathematics Olympiad. She noted that the interest in the subject Olympiad is increasing every year. More than 200 students studying in the V-IX classes of Sumgayit city general education schools participated in the Mathematical Olympiad held on March 4, 2023. According to the results of the Olympiad, a total of 17 people were declared winners, including 3 people -first place, 3 - second place  and 11- third place . She congratulated the Olympiad winners and wished them success in their future studies.

Speaking at the event, Matlab Agayarov associate professor of the department of Mathematics and its teaching methodology  congratulated the winners of the Olympiad and said that the competition was organized for the purpose of increasing the interest of young people in exact sciences, identifying talented young people and guiding them in their professional direction. He noted that reforms in this field have been started by our state since 2014 and a number of systematic works have been done to identify talented children in a short period of time.

In the end, the parents expressed their deep gratitude to the university management and noted that holding such competitions will create a great background for improving students" knowledge in the future.

In the end, diplomas were presented to 17 students who showed high results in the Math Olympiad.
