On April 12, a scientific-practical seminar on "Ensuring efficient use of water resources" was held of Sumgayit State University under the organization of the department of Ecology of the faculty of Chemistry and biology.

At the seminar, SSU vice-rector for Science and innovations professor Ramazan Mammadov, general director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, corresponding member of ANAS, professor Alovsat Guliyev and a group of employees of the Institute, deputy director of the "Sukanal" Research and Project Institute Elnur Nasirov and a group of employees of the institute, the deputy head of the "Sumgayit Sukanal" department Mahir Imanov, the department head of the Azerbaijan Scientific and Research Institute of Water Problems Hamlet Fattayev, the deputy head of the regional department No. 4 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Emin Alialakbarov, the regional department No. 4 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Head of Department Arshad Gurbanov, Chief Specialist of Regional Office No. 4 of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Asaf Bayramov, head of Ecology and Tourism Department of Child and Youth Development Center No. 1 Sevinj Maharramova, head of department of that Center Irada Babayeva, professor-teachers of faculty of Chemistry and biology of SSU, graduate students and students participated.

Prof. Ramazan Mammadov, vice-rector for Science and Innovations of SSU, opened the seminar with an introductory speech, greeted the guests and participants, and talked about the relevance of the topic. In recent years, he spoke about the implementation of large-scale projects in the field of increasing the efficiency of using of water in our country, expanding arable land areas and improving the supply of irrigation water, as well as meeting the population"s demand for drinking water. In this regard, the vice-rector stated that major projects are being implemented in the direction of creating new institutions and expanding the network infrastructure with the support of the state. As a result, the irrigation system has been improved and modernized for the population of Azerbaijan, which has limited fresh water resources. Emphasizing the abundance of water resources in our occupied territories, the professor said that the irrigation water supply of the Suguvushan reservoir liberated by the Azerbaijan Army will be improved.

Then, the following participants made a speech: Alovsat Guliyev "Use of water resources in Azerbaijan, ancient water sources-kahriz", Elnur Nasirov"Future water problems of Azerbaijan and ways to solve them", Mahir İmanov "Water Supply of Sumgayit City", Hamlet Fattayev "Effect of Global Climate Changes on Azerbaijan"s Water Resources", Asef Bayramov "Environmental situation of Sumgayit city", Rahila Ahmadova "The role of education in environmental awareness", Gunel Akhundova "Participation of young people in environmental actions".

It was noted in the reports that ensuring food security in Azerbaijan was set as a strategic task by President Ilham Aliyev before the government. For this  measures were taken to improve the food supply of the population, and reserves of basic food products were created. At the same time, solving the water problem in the country is one of the most important tasks facing the government, and it was emphasized that a commission was created on the efficient use of water resources. Measures are implemented  to improve the drinking water supply of the population in all regions of Azerbaijan, in addition to the capital city of Baku: aqueduct systems are renewed, water purification devices, irrigated water reservoirs are built, main and network water and sewage lines are built, sewage treatment facilities are created.

They pointed out that even with all this, the strategic importance of water and its conservation are always actual, and thanked  to the organizers of the event, especially the rector of the university professor Elkhan Huseynov.

At the end of the seminar, many questions of the students were answered.
