On May 5, a scientific-practical conference was held at the Heydar Aliyev School of Sumgayit State University on the topic "Independent Azerbaijan is the result of the successful domestic and foreign policy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev".

First, the conference participants viewed a photo and book exhibition highlighting the life and activities of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in front of the main educational building of Sumgayit State University.

At the conference, the dear memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated with a minute"s silence.

The conference was opened by the rector of the university, professor Elkhan Huseynov. Elkhan Huseynov reminded that the series of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev are ongoing in our university, as in every part of our country. He noted that the focus of the activity of the National Leader was to serve his people faithfully,and  to form the Republic of Azerbaijan as an independent state .

He also stated that the activities of the national leader aimed at strengthening the traditions of statehood in both periods of his leadership of the country at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, the rector expressed his opinion as follows: "The comprehensive plan defined by the Great Leader today, the development strategy has been successfully implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

SSU vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations, associate professor Elmar Khalilov delivered a report on "Heydar Aliyev"s place in the history of Azerbaijan"s statehood". The  renaissance and the awakening of national consciousness began with Heydar Aliyev"s coming to power, and our independence became eternal and irreversible thanks to him, Elmar Khalilov called it a great happiness for the people that Heydar Aliyev is the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people: "It is the result of the strategy created and developed by the Great Leader that "Our people managed to end the 30-year occupation of the Republic of Armenia under the leadership of their Commander-in-Chief".

Around the report, head of the department of Mathematics and its teaching methodology, docent Maftun Heydarova on the topic "The life path and political activity of the great leader Heydar Aliyev", head of the department of Biology and its teaching methodology, docent Arzu Bakhshaliyev "Heydar Aliyev - A personality ahead of time", head of the Scientific department, docent Samir Orujov, "Heydar Aliyev - about patriotism and high professionalism", Hasan Hasanov, a first-year student of the faculty of Economics and management "Zarifa Aliyeva - a gentle and polite, and intelligent Azerbaijani lady" made reports. They said that when the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev laid the foundation of our state, he created a solid and reliable fundament in all directions. Along with all this, he prepared successful concepts for our future development. Because the great leader believed in the bright tomorrow of Azerbaijan with all his being. Today, it is a source of joy and pride for each of us that the administration of our state and the command of our army are in the hands of President Ilham Aliyev. As we know, the 44-day Patriotic war ended with the great victory of the right cause of Azerbaijan. Thanks to this victory, our lands, which had been under enemy slavery for nearly 30 years, were freed from occupation. Our glorious army led by the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev fulfilled its honorable mission and ensured the territorial integrity of our country. The policy of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev is also the source of the joy of Victory, which we are living with pride today. This great Victory, which restores historical justice, is the solemn result of the successful policy of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
