On May 18, an event on "Life and activity of Heydar Aliyev" was held in connection with the 100th anniversary of the birth of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, organized by the department of history of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe people of the History and geography faculty of Sumgayit State University.

First, the dear memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was commemorated with a minute"s silence.

The event began with the screening of a video clip depicting the life and activity of the Great Leader.

The dean of the faculty, professor Adil Bakhshaliyev opened the event with his  speech, emphasized that the 100th anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was widely celebrated with joy, and spoke about the honorable and meaningful life path of the Great Leader. Returning to power in the most difficult days of our country, the Great Leader rescued our people from troubles in a short time, established peace, stability, and rule of law.The dean said that  the wise leader Heydar Aliyev, whose heart always beat with love for the country, who found  the best way out of every difficult situation, his  role in the history of Azerbaijan and in the international arena, including in the empowerment of our country, his unparalleled services and contributions to world politics. He said that the National Leader won eternal life in the memory by creating the ideological and political foundations of statehood.

Then professor Shirkhan Salimov, head of the department of history of Azerbaijan and Eastern Europe peoples, gave an extensive report on "The life and activity of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev". He emphasized that the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev is a phenomenal figure in the history of Azerbaijan, and noted that with Heydar Aliyev"s return to power, Azerbaijan"s statehood was saved from great threats, and a fundamental turn  occured in the country"s social-political, socio-economic, scientific-cultural life, and international relations. Azerbaijan, founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev, is developing in the international arena today under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The success achieved by Azerbaijan is based on the determination and perseverance of President Ilham Aliyev and the proper living of the political and moral legacy of the Great Leader. At the same time, the international reputation of our state has increased, and its position among the countries of the world has been comprehensively strengthened. Our  ancestral lands, which were held by the enemy for nearly 30 years through military and political-diplomatic means, were freed from occupation by the 44-day Patriotic war.

Then the associate professor of the department, head of the Career and Graduate employment center, associate professor Amirkhan Isayev gave a detailed speech on "Socio-economic development in the first stage of Heydar Aliyev"s rule". He spoke about the Great Leader"s attention and concern for science, education, and scientists. He said that since the late 1960s, the organization and development of our science and education was connected with the name of the most prominent figure of our national and statehood history, the founder of modern independent Azerbaijan, National leader Heydar Aliyev. Today, President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the goal-oriented national statehood, independence, science, education, culture and economic policy of the Great Leader, and always approach  sensitively to scientists. President Ilham Aliyev consistently implements the visionary recommendations of the Great Leader, who was a great protector of science, education and culture, scientists and teachers, on supporting the development of science in Azerbaijan, as well as all his other wills.

Then the lecturers of the department made a speech on the topics: senior lecturer, doctor of philosophy in history Samir Maharramov "Education policy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev", senior lecturer Parviz Jafarov "Course of Heydar Aliyev"s foreign policy", lecturer Aysel Shamilova "Socio-economic policy of Heydar Aliyev in the period of independence", lecturer Jeyhun Gasimbeyli "Army building during the reign of National Leader Heydar Aliyev" and Songul Karimzade, student of the 827th group of the faculty, "Heydar Aliyev"s youth policy". It was noted in the reports that every nation has geniuses who play the role of saviors in the history of national freedom and independence. The National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, left a bright and unforgettable  mark on the history of the modern world as a great personality, extraordinary and a wise statesman.
