THE AWARDING CEREMONY OF THE WINNERS OF THE "BEST PRESENTATION" COMPETITION ON "KARABAKH AND SHUSHA IN MEDIEVAL SOURCES AND IN MODERN PERIOD RESEARCHES" WAS HELD AT SSU
On May 19, SSU held an awarding ceremony for the winners of the "Best Presentation" competition on the topic "Karabakh and Shusha in Medieval sources and in modern period researches".
After the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played, the dear memory of our martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations of the university associate professor Elmar Khalilov, opened the awarding ceremony and talked about the relevance of the topic. He noted that Shusha, the crown of Karabakh, is a sacred and dear place for our people. Love for Shusha is an integral part of the spiritual existence of every Azerbaijani. The city of Shusha, founded in 1752 by Karabakh khan Panahali khan, went through a rich development and played an exceptional role in the cultural and social-political life of Azerbaijan and the entire South Caucasus. This city, which always preserved its unique historical appearance and was a city with its great personalities. , wrote remarkable pages in our cultural, scientific and social chronicle thought. The rapid development of Shusha in the 70s of the last century was closely related to the name of our National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Special decisions on the development of the city were made at the initiative of the Great Leader. Since that time, construction works in Shusha have expanded, and important steps have been taken to perpetuate the memory of our cultural figures. Shusha, distinguished by its strategic position, was invaded on May 8, 1992 by the armed forces of Armenia, which started military aggression against Azerbaijan. During the occupation, hundreds of historical and cultural monuments in the city were destroyed as a result of acts of vandalism. Our victorious army, under the leadership of our Supreme Commander-in-Chief, liberated the city of Shusha from occupation on November 8, 2020. The victory of Shusha, which paved the way for the capitulation of Armenia, became a celebration of the heroic spirit of our people and was engraved in our history as Victory Day.
It should be noted that on May 15, based on the implementation of the action plan related to the declaration of the city of Shusha as the "Cultural capital of the Turkic world" for 2023, the "Best Presentation" competition on the topic "Karabakh and Shusha in Medieval sources and in modern period researches" started. 24 students from the faculty of Economics and management applied to participate in the competition.
