On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Azerbaijan People"s Republic, which is a glorious page in the history of Azerbaijan, an event called "Raising the flag once" was organized in Sumgayit city secondary school No.26. Firstly, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played.

Ali Musayev, the director of school No. 26, who opened the event with an introductory speech, talked about the effective cooperation with Sumgayit State University and expressed his gratitude to the students who had a pedagogical experience for organizing the event.

Later, the head of the department of History and its teaching methodology, associate professor Sona Maharramova made a speech and noted that on May 28, 1918, the National Council of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, by signing the Declaration of Independence, declared Azerbaijan"s independence to the world and continued the centuries-old statehood traditions of our people. In a short period of time, the first parliament and government of Azerbaijan were established, state attributes were created, borders were defined, important measures were taken in the field of state building. He said that although the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic existed for only 23 months, the national ideology of freedom and independence of our people will always live in the hearts. Sona Maharramova pointed out that the National Leader Heydar Aliyev highly appreciated the 23-month activity of the ADR and noted that it had a special place in the history of Azerbaijan. On January 30, 1998, the Great Leader signed a special Decree on holding the 80th anniversary of the ADR. The Decree "On the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan People"s Republic" signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev on May 16, 2017, followed by another Decree which signed on January 10, 2018 declaring 2018 as the "Year of the Azerbaijan People"s Republic" continued this tradition.

At the event, Nofal Abdullayev, the senior lecturer of the department of History and its teaching methodology, spoke about the occupation of Azerbaijan by Bolshevik Russia, and the associate professor of the department Yusifali Hasanov spoke about the great services of ADR in the development history of Azerbaijan. Later, they recited poems performed by talented students of the school. The last session of the Parliament of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was staged with the participation of the students of the SSU, was shown. The song "Long live my people" was performed by the students of the faculty of History and geography.

At the end of the event, it was noted that holding of such events was particular importance in the upbringing of the future young generations of Azerbaijan in the spirit of patriotism.
