A Mini-football Competition Started at SSU on October 18 – Independence Day
On October 14, in connection with the Day of Restoration of Independence, the interfaculty mini-football competitions of students of Sumgait State Technical College under Sumgait State University and SSU were started.
First, vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations, associate professor Elmar Khalilov spoke about the importance of October 18, and stated that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was established in 1918, lived for only 23 months and that our country regained its independence on October 18, 1991.
The vice-rector noted that the first years of independence were not easy for a young sovereign country and that Azerbaijan was facing great difficulties, on the one hand, the military aggression of Armenia continued, on the other hand, the country"s economy was in crisis and internal stability was disturbed, as well as there were concrete threats and risks for Azerbaijan"s statehood. He pointed out that in that difficult period, at the call of the Azerbaijani people, the great leader Heydar Aliyev returned to Azerbaijan and came to power in 1993.
He noted that the a lot of work done in the direction of secular, legal and democratic state-building in our country during the period of strengthening our independence are the result of the unparalleled services of Heydar Aliyev, the world-famous politician and National Leader of our people.
Docent Elmar Khalilov also stated that three years ago, our lands, were freed from occupation in the 44-day Patriotic war.
The people of Azerbaijan united more firmly around their leader and signed the eternal life of our independence.
Today we are proud of our independent state.
Then the competitions started.
It should be noted that 8 teams tested their skills in mini-football.
