October 18 is one of our most glorious historical days - State Independence Day of Azerbaijan. This year, the victorious people of Azerbaijan celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the restoration of our state independence. On this occasion, a series of events are held at Sumgayit State University with the support of the Student Union and the Student Youth Organization.

At the events held in the faculties, the deans congratulated the collective on the occasion of the significant day and valued the restoration of state independence of our nation in the early 90s of the last century as an important historical event. They noted that Azerbaijan, which had the opportunity to regain its independence as a result of the historical conditions created by the collapse of the USSR at the end of the 20th century. It had longed for many years with the adoption of the Constitutional Act on State Independence on October 18, 1991 at the session of the Supreme Soviet. With this, Azerbaijan gained the opportunity to gain independence twice in a century, to create its own sovereign state. The first opportunity was lost due to foreign intervention and lack of international support, and the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, founded in 1918, lived for only 23 months. As a result, on December 29, 1991, 95 percent of the population participated in the national referendum and voted for the country"s independence, sovereignty, and independence, and then the laws on the national flag, anthem were adopted. The countries of the world began to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan.

The speakers also pointed out that it was not easy to preserve it in Azerbaijan, which regained its independence in 1991. Great leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to political power in Azerbaijan in 1993 at the insistence of the people, made the independence of our country eternal and irreversible. The efforts of the National Leader to preserve and strengthen our independence are continued today by his worthy successor, President Ilham Aliyev. It is especially proud to celebrate Independence Day after our brilliant Victory under the leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief. Having won this historic victory, the people of Azerbaijan showed the whole world that the independence of Azerbaijan is eternal.

Poems dedicated to our independence were performed by students at the events, and songs glorifying our heroism, patriotism and independence were performed.
