According to the decree signed by Great Leader Heydar Aliyev on February 2, 1997, February 2 is celebrated as Azerbaijan Youth Day every year. On this occasion, a competition of intellectual knowledge among young employees was held at Sumgayit State University under the organization of the Trade Union Committee.

SSU Vice-Rector for Social affairs and public relations associate professor Elmar Khalilov opened the competition and congratulated the young people, talking about the importance of this day and the successfully implemented state youth policy in our country. Thanks to the state's support and attention to the youth, the sense of confidence in themselves, their strength and talent has increased in the youth of Azerbaijan. In this direction, for the first time at Sumgait State University, holding such an intellectual knowledge competition among young employees, in addition to celebrating the Youth Day, developing the intellectual level of young employees and young researchers, promoting the rich national culture, traditions, glorious history of Azerbaijan and the habits of approaching from a creative perspective stimulation.

The chairman of the Trade Union Committee of SSU, associate professor Nemet Ibayev, made a speech and congratulated the youth on the occasion of Youth Day, gave detailed information about the rules of the knowledge competition, informed the participants that the competition consists of 3 rounds and each round consists of 12 questions.

Then the knowledge competition was started under the moderation of Ali Rzayev, the senior lecturer of the department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methodology.

Note that in the competition held with the participation of 7 teams, the team of the faculty of Mathematics won the 1st place, the team of the faculty of Chemistry and biology won the 2nd place, and the team of the faculty of Economics and management won the 3rd place.

At the end, the members of the winning team were presented with a certificate of Honor and valuable gifts.
