A MASTER CLASS ABOUT ‘GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS, ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES’ WAS HELD AT SSU
On April 2, academician Vagif Abbasov, general director of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev, held a master class about ‘Global environmental problems, alternative energy sources’ at Sumgait State University.
The professor-teacher staff and students of SSU participated in the master class.
The rector of the university, associate professor Rufat Azizov, welcomed the guest and the participants, speaking about the relevance of the topic, stated that the solution of environmental problems is one of the most urgent topics in the world at the moment. The purpose of such events is to assess the real environmental situation through the eyes of young people and achieve more research of this field by young people.
Rector spoke about the important political and economic importance of holding COP29 in Azerbaijan. He noted that although certain steps have been taken in the direction of solving these problems in the world in recent years, the effective solution of environmental problems requires the joint action of world states. In this direction, COP29 will be not just a conference for discussing environmental problems, but a big global forum where important steps will be taken together to solve environmental problems. In general, holding the event in Azerbaijan indicates the exceptional role of our country in the fight against environmental problems.
Then academician Vagif Abbasov talked about the difficulties caused by global climate changes and the ways to solve them. He talked about environmental problems that concern the world and our republic, their causes and solutions. He said that one of the main challenges of the 21st century is to ensure ecological balance. In this direction, the main goals in terms of improving the ecological situation in our country are prevention of pollution of water resources, protection of biodiversity, increase of greenery, protection of atmospheric air, prevention of soil degradation, including cleaning of soils contaminated with oil and other wastes, disposal of solid industrial and domestic wastes, including consists of improving hazardous waste management. In these areas, certain works have been done in the direction of solving environmental problems, and these works are already showing their results.
The speaker also noted that the end of the 44-day Patriotic War with victory not only freed our lands from occupation, but also put an end to the ecological terrorist acts carried out by the aggressor Armenia in our territories. Having liberated its lands from occupation, Azerbaijan is taking important steps to restore the ecological situation in that region. Construction of hydroelectric power stations (HPS) continues here as part of the transformation into a ‘green energy’ zone. At the same time, stations and substations are being restored in those areas. Today, new breath is coming to Karabakh, it is turning from ecological terror into a green world
