AN EVENT DEDICATED TO ‘WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY’ ORGANIZED BY THE FACULTY OF PHILOLOGY WAS HELD
April 2 - World Autism Day, the month of April is dedicated to autism awareness around the world. Every year, a series of events are held in Azerbaijan to educate the society about autism. An event dedicated to ‘April 2 World Autism Awareness Day’ was held in Sumgait city special school for children with disabilities under the organization of group No. 935 of the Faculty of Philology of Sumgait State University with the participation of teachers, students, speech therapists and school management.
Psychologist Shafag Umudova opened the event and talked about the announcement of the World Autism Awareness Day by the UN and the fact that it is celebrated annually on a global scale, the situation related to autism in our country, and the work carried out by state and non-state institutions in that direction. She noted that the purpose of the event is to focus the public's attention on the needs of people and families with autism spectrum disorders.
Shafag Umudova pointed out that autism syndrome is a universal problem and spoke about its relevance for our country in recent years. She gave information about the symptoms of autism, the form of self-expression and the rules of behavior with autistic children. She stated that autism is a general developmental delay that begins at an early age, manifests itself in the presence of problems in the sphere of social relations and communication, leads to limited and repetitive behaviors. Emphasizing the importance of every member of the society to be careful in dealing with them, the psychologist emphasized that autism is not a disease, but a difference.
At the end of the event, the questions of the participants about autism syndrome were answered and the importance of raising awareness about autism among the population was noted.
