As it is known, 2024 was declared the ‘Green World Solidarity Year’ in our country by the relevant Decree of the President of the country Ilham Aliyev. The aforementioned Order also imposes relevant duties on the education system of our country. According to the order, within the framework of the ‘Green World Solidarity Year’, on April 23, 2024, a scientific seminar called ‘GREEN WORLD: ECOLOGY OF PHILOLOGICAL SCIENCES’ dedicated to ‘Earth Day’ was held at the Faculty of Philology of Sumgait State University.

In the scientific seminar, the members of the pedagogical staff of the Faculty of Philology: moderator Professor Nigar Iskenderova and Dean of the Faculty Associate Professor Gunel Pashayeva spoke about the responsibility of every inhabitant of the Earth who serves the educational work in the field of environmental protection and the changes that occurred as a result of indifferent attitude to nature, as well as language and ecological issues, they reported on the interactions between languages to preserve linguistic diversity.

Then the teachers of the Faculty of Philology gave their scientific reports. Matanat Maharramova, a teacher of the department of Azerbaijani language and its teaching methodology, gave detailed information about ecological concepts and analyzed them in a comparative manner in her report ‘Ecoconcept: education, nurture, habit’. The teacher of that department, Ilaha Musayeva, spoke about the factors that shape the ecological environment of the language and colinguistics, including the research areas and directions of the ecolinguistics science, and the problems encountered in this direction in her speech entitled ‘Research directions of the science of ecolinguistics’. Saadat Khalilova, head teacher of the department of foreign languages, in her report entitled ‘Formation of environmental education in English language classes’ devoted a lot of space to the issues of teaching the topics given in primary and secondary school textbooks with different methods. Gulnar Hasanova, the senior laboratory assistant of that department, gave information about various strategies based on the analysis of samples for translating ecological terms with her report entitled ‘Methods of translation of ecological terms’.
