On April 24, a meeting with the leading specialist Stephen John Cowley, professor of the Institute of History of Culture and Communication, faculty of Humanities, Siddansk University, Denmark was held a meeting on Zoom platform with the project participants on Ecolinguistics from Sumgait State University (assistant professor Gunel Pashayeva, professor Nigar Isgenderova, associate professor Matanat Maharramova, senior lecturers Jala Mammadova, Ilaha Musayeva and Gulnar Hasanova).

The project participants had a Zoom meeting with professor Emeritus Stephen John Cowley of Syddansk Universitet, Det Humanistiske Fakultet, Institut for Sprog, Kultur, Historie og Kommunikation), who is a leading specialist in researches on Eco-linguistics. At the meeting, extensive discussions were held regarding the history and future of Ecolinguistics, the project's scientific idea, theoretical basis, applied and practical significance of the field of study. Certain recommendations regarding the implementation of the research plan of the project were given by prof. by Stephen John Cowley.

It was noted that while eco-linguistics is 50 years old and standardly tracked to Haugen (1971) and Halliday (1990), since a Special issue of “Language Sciences” (edited by Sune Steffensen in 2014) and with the rise of the field in China, it has begun to transform into what I call a ‘New Eco-linguistics.’ A growing number adopt Stibbe and Alexander’s (2014) goal of moving beyond analysis of ecological discourse to working to transform life-sustaining relationships (or, as I prefer, relations) between humans and nonhumans (and between ourselves). Hence one strives, on the one hand, to link eco-linguistics with science to mitigate the climate catastrophe and, on the other, seeking ways of collaborating for local, regional and national transformations (e.g. by building an Ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics). Attention turns to how the linguistic roots are entangled with and enable growth right across a rich (but still to be defined) interdisciplinary field.
