On June 25, an event dedicated to the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at Sumgait State University. At the event, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played and the dear memory of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of our country was commemorated with a minute of silence. Ilham Mammadov, the senior lecturer of the department of Civil Defense, Medical and Physical Training of the faculty of Natural Sciences of SSU, who opened the event with his opening speech, congratulated every soldier of our army and the people of Azerbaijan, especially the Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, on the occasion of the significant historical day. He took a look at the historical development path of building the national army in Azerbaijan, talked about the services of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the formation and strengthening of the army. He said that June 26 was declared as the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the day of the formation of the Azerbaijan Corps, that is, the National Army, in Alahid during the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic by the Decree of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev dated May 22, 1998. Every year since that day, this date is celebrated as an official state holiday. Thanks to the steps of the National Leader, the Military School named after Jamshid Nakhchivanski started operating in Baku in 1971 and gave a great impetus to the further strengthening of interest in military art in Azerbaijan. The policy of the Great Leader in the field of army building is being successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev. At present, the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of our country are reliably protected. Ilham Mammadov also emphasized that the great victory won by our army in 2020 is an indicator of the strength and power of our Armed Forces. Of course, we also had martyrs who died for the country on this road. Among them, the graduates of SSU also rose to the top of Martyrdom, showing heroism. In the end, a video clip glorifying the military might of the Azerbaijani army was shown.
